h22a4 head and h22a block???
i just bought a 98 prelude and it came to my attention when i noticed that im running a h22a block with a h22a4 head well it says h22a4 on the cam and timming belt cover but the engine looks like it has never been swaped all the factory marks are still on the nuts and bolts. it just got me woundering is that a possible? the motor is stamped h22a and i cleaned the badge to just to make sure i didnt miss any numbers but thats what it said....weird n its running all OBD2 no mods or n e thing...makes this whinning noise tho like i have a supercharger i dont know what can cause that to haha
Yes it's possible. I have a built H22a1 block mated with an H22a4 head. I'm running all obd2 components under the hood but with an obd1 ecu (hondata tuned). Prior to the ECU swap though, I ran the stock obd2 p5m (what you have) and it ran beautifully as well. So yes it's possible...As for the whine, could be a belt that's too tight or something?
depends, could just be that the availability of parts. are you sure your entire head is stock? no cams or anything special? i would use the cams only in the head, because the OBD2 head has the rockers that are spring-controlled instead of the OBD1 with the push-piston system
Not sure there's a difference between H22a and H22a1 blocks, but I don't have a JDM block, I have a USDM H22a1. I swapped blocks because I found a great deal on a fully built bottom end (pistons, rods, sleeves, bearings, all of it) and it was more cost effective for my build than tearing down the a4 block and purchasing all the parts separately...
i would asume its stock i havent opened up the valve cover yet but i dont think i would be able to tell if its stock cams or not. but i'll find sometime tommarow and see what i find. Is there a way i can tell if the head is also us or jdm. I dont really trust that timming cover lable... they could have swaped it with the us one. But yeah im still woundering about that whinning noise. Sounds like im supercharged but i dont know if its a bad sign or not.
