Default removing side molding?

I'm about to start painting my hatch, so I would like to take off the side molding. I'm having a hard time getting it off though, I'm afraid of breaking it. Does anybody have any tips? thanks

all i did was slide a thin paint peeler in there and pulled it out a little then slid my finger into the top. The clips are in there but the molding is off. Although, if you do break the clips or the molding, they are still cheap off of hondapartsdeal.com. I believe 10 for the molding and 2-3 bucks for 3 clips. I wouldnt worry so much about breaking them.

yea its better to just go to Honda and buy a new bag of clips anyhow they are old and bridal most of the time and they usually look looks so u can actually just have new clips and make sure they are nice and snug fitted with the new clips

remove rear interior panels on both side( really easy) and door panels and pop the clips off and put panels back on!

only issue with sakasaku's answer is in the door.

there is a metal brace covering the clips.

that is to much work for just removing the molding. They pop right off. My clips didnt even break, i just got new ones just in case i do manage to break them if i need to pop them off (since i will be painting my hatch as well). I feel like the clips are rather forgiving (atleast in my case) for being nearly 20 years old.
