Default (noob) Got my first car a 96 civic ex cant find much info on a D16A engine

I never cared about cars that much until I got my first car a 96 civic ex automatic few days ago and now I have become in love with it . I wanted to find info about the engine thats in my car. From what I see, D16A is stamped on the block of the engine (no numbers after the A) and its SOHC but thats all i kno of my engine. I wanted to know how can you tell if the engine is Vtec because I read that there is a non Vtec one as well and how much horsepower the engine has and is it a JDM engine?.

It should be a D16Y8 motor and it is vtec, -127HP

But if there is a D16A stamped on it, it could be a different motor but there should more than just D16A, Was it all stock when you bought it?

Did you buy it from a private seller or a dealer?

Would you be able to post a Picture and D16A stamped on the block to clarify its really a D16A should be a Y8.

Just trying to get more info to help you out.

To answer your question about a non vtec motor it makes 115 horsepower and it comes as a USDM and JDM version also.

thnx blkegcoupe, yea the 96 civic ex should come with the Y8's i think but maybe in canada its different or maybe Y8 just come in manual civic ex's. The previous owner had a d16y7 but then it was burning oil and so he got a new engine. Its too dark and cold right now so i cant get a picture but im 99% sure that I saw HM and under that it said D16A on the bottom left side of the engine.

D16A - EJ1 130PS SOHC VTEC + PGM-FI OBD1 (Japan Coupe 93-95)

D16A - EJ7 120PS SOHC VTEC-E OBD2 (Japan Coupe 96-00)

There are a few other cars, but these are the most common D16A engines. As you can see, the OBD1 version is much like a D16Z6, the OBD2 more like a D16Y5.

The only 6th gen Canadian EXs are sedans, and they come stock with a D16y7.

Okay, Canadian EXes are not the same as US EXes.

First, the Canadian EX was a sedan only. US ones were coupes and sedans. No hatches for either country though.

A Canadian EX is an (chassis code) EJ6 with a D16Y7 (1.6L SOHC non-VTEC). A US EX is an EJ8 with a D16Y8 (1.6L SOHC VTEC).

A US "equivalent" would be a DX or LX sedan. Same chassis code, same engine, same approximate body.

The D16A is a Japanese engine sold in many different cars and could actually represent several different engines.
