Looking for more hp in a d series; What Intake manifold, throttle body do I choose
Hey guys, Like the title says: I'm looking to get a little more Hp out of my sohc zc. Rite now I'm looking into upgrading my manifold and throttle body. Thing is I ran into a couple issues. Clearance, compatibility, carb O.E., ECU codes etcetera etcetera. Before I start, here's my current mods: AEM CAI, complete exhaust, AEM cam gear (set 2 degrees forward), AEM pulley, grounding kit, stock injectors , walbro fuel pump. I have an AEM FPR and fuel rail, I pan to set the fuel pressure to match what's needed of the increased air ratio.
Here's how I need help; I was looking to get the skunk2, since it's the least expensive and most available, but The instructions on their website. http://www.skunk2.com/installation/307-05-0260.pdf
Are confusing to me. It won't fit my crx engine bay, it will make my car throw codes, I cant use my Throttle body, and they don't even mention if it's compatible with their throttle bodies. And then their throttle bodies might make you throw codes because the cooling lines and vacuum lines are not re-used.
So I started looking at Blox racing.
http://www.bloxracing.com/prod_intake.asp
Which seams like my best bet. They have them set to be complete bolt on, and are made for the d16a6.
I also looked at Edelbrock.
http://www.edelbrock.com/sportcompact_new/
but it seems they don't make them for a crx, and I have no clue on where I would buy them.
I also read that a y8 manifold will actually be best of all of them.
So I'd like to now if anyone's running these setups, or your setup, and how the install was, performance, and anything else you can share
If you have anything please post, pics would be great too.
Thanks guys, anything you think might help is appreciated.

Y8 manifold and bore the stock throttle body.
Since most people are concerned with budget to some extent, here's what I'd say to do...
1.) Find a Stock Y8 with Y8 throttle body
2.) DIY port match the Y8 IM to your head where needed.
3.) Spend the money you saved at a local dyno, tweaking your cam timing (starting at -1°) and your ignition timing (starting at +19°) for one hour until you find the best potential from the setup.
In exchange for my good advice, help me find an MPFI ZC cam.

so what car do I look for, for a y8 engine. Is it 96-00 civics?
People who voted for the skunk2 left no response? =[
So will my throttle body fit the y8? or do I use the y8's throttle body?
Will that be a bolt on deal, no codes. Anyone have these setups here/
sorry, too many questions.

made up my mind, I'm going with Blox racing. Money is no issue for me anyways, and blox has great customer service, they told me, for my particular setup; I'm going to need only a throttle bracket and cable from a civic, though I still don't know what year. I emailed them again . Can anyone confirm this, is my cable to short and I can't mod my bracket>
thanks guys
thanks guys
You can mod your bracket.... I would just get the cable. **** is cheap and easy to install. I know when my friend change his gsr manifold to skunk2 he had to get a different cable.
cables too short? I'll go get one then and I'm good:, this is for a sohc, anyone know wich cable I need 92-95 civic?
I have all these parts that blox customer service said I would need:
AEm fuel rail 88-95 civic
AEM fpr 88-00 civic
new tb gasket
new mani gasket
blox mani d series sohc
blox throttle body 66 mm
Vacuum lines, plugs and coolant hoses not needed if you use a blox tb, it is if you use the civic tb
All I need is the cable
I was wondering. Because I've seen other post relating to a new or aftermarket manifold. if some one can ask a moderator to place this in the faq
One more questio; so I have some knowledge before i go in their. how do I remove the throttle cable?
I will also post my emails to blox, they included some info. And I can add the link to skunk2's instructions

thanks for the support, I will try and post pictures also too help
I just found a thread from another forum, apparently, it might not fit without some hammering. This will have to wait till after my innovative mounts are in, so I can measure. I will research more in the meantime. And post updates with new info I've gathered. Pictures also

also, for those worried about carb. The new skunk2 pro is carb legal, sticker and all. The blox one doesn't have the sticker but looks stock just like a type r manifold, which essentialy they are copies of.
I did some searching and found that blox and skunk2 are the same on the outside, aside the sticker n skunk2. But blox has shown higher gains than even the edelbrock.
rumor has it.
A skunk2 employee left skunk2 and started his own company (blox)
So I assume the guy knows his stuff and makes a better mani at less the price
the reason the price is less is probably because blox has not paid for theirs to be carb approved.
If anyone can confirm clearance issues, please add it to the thread.

well I have all my supplies;

I have a hondata gasket on already and it's supposedly re-useable, other gaskets I'll get Friday, my fuel injectors I'll re-use since I got new ones when I dd a tune up. I would like to see quality pics of the skunk2. I read that blox products have better dyno results.

I think Skunk 2 and Blox are just about on par with eachother, they both look almost exactly the same...
People have been saying that the Edelbrock Intake Manifold is giving them better numbers.

I need some help. can someone tell me where all the plugs go. I'm one short from stock and don't know where to put it. The fuel pressure regulator, do i adapt it to this

Oh, forgot to update for anyone who also wants this. If anyone has questions, you can pm me if you want.
it's been on for a couple days, i recommend getting the 600 mm skunk2 tb, the 66 blox is too big and your idle will be high. Performance wise, I haven't had a chance to really test it.
as for the install, it was fairly simple get the instructons off skunk2, they are more detailed than blox
All I used was a new coupler,, 92-95 civic throttle body gasket and cable bracket 2 feet of vaccuum line, and a vacuum cap.
It's all bolt on, you don't even reconnect the purge control valve, no codes, all other connections mount right up. The coolant hose that isn't used on the new throttle body, you bypass it through the block again, same with the idle air control valve, you connect them together.
Here is the end result:

Where does this go?

edit, the blox mani leaks from all connection points. Well at least mine does
