Since most of you track your cars, or at least know of Spoon and Infinion. Be careful out there!
This can happen to anyone. I wish the driver a speedy recovery!!!

Wow...that is horrible.
I really want to see pics of the turn that led to this.

Me neither, but that car must have had some serios velocity to have made it that far up a set of stands like that. Thank God there was nobody spectating.
If nothing else comes of this, i sincerely hope the track makes the necessary changes to ensure something like that never happens again.

From reading on the NASA forum, the car was going 100+ and no brake lights were seen. That and there was a burm/hill there as well.
Also on that site linked above, the "folks in charge" are already in discussions.

Haven't watched it all... but apparently this is the video...

Looks to start at the 9:24ish area. Look way ahead on the straight. Pretty scary stuff.

That's really scary.
Didn't Mr. Spoon also crash his NSX-R also this week? Bad week for Spoon...

A NASA-Virginia driver recently lost his life in a strange off course accident. He was a great driver.
In his case it seems to have been a mechanical failure, most likely a brake disk shattered when he went into threshold braking at the end of the straight at Summit Main.
Be careful. Check everything.

Watching the video reminds me of the worst racing disaster in history, the Mercedes/Jaguar crash of 1955 which also launched a car into the stands. Unfortunately, this was a spectator event, the 24 hours of LeMans.
Young folks will not remember that this crash led to the withdrawal of Mercedes from all racing for decades, and a complete ban on racing in Switzerland.
Switzerland did not lift its racing ban until 2007, 52 years after the accident.

It was a race. You cannot just concentrate on what's in front of you. He could have been blocking or anticipating blocks.

My guess though, blocks and such.
