Default cylinder compression low, please help!

they said the numbers were where they should be and that they were lower than what i said they should be because the engine had a few miles on it and wasnt "tight" anymore. my car has 60k miles on it and the compression on each cylinder was 165, 170, 180, 155 for 1-4.

The main reason i took it in was because it had hydro locked on me when it was raining like crazy here and they said the only problem was a cracked distributor cap and rotor. they checked valves and all the other goodies that go along with hydro lock, but couldnt come up with anything else wrong.

Now does anyone know what would be causing this and how i could go about correcting the problem. acura wont seem to touch it since it doesnt fall under the "135 or less" category so im at a total loss here. any input would be great. thanks for any help guys!

Acura wont touch it anyways, you hydrolocked it, not them. Those numbers are low and the max variance is over the spec. Did you/they/whoever hold the throttle at WOT during the test?

"135 or less"??

Its a ITR right?

My numbers were 245 242 233 233 with bad oil rings 30K miles... you got problems.

Oh, and please explain how Hydrolock has anything to do with a cracked distributer?

Yeah ... those are real low ... my numbers range from 222 to 225 w/3000 miles on the car. Been a race car all it's life.

nothing i dont think, but i was just saying thats all they found wrong with it. well yea, i hydro locked it, so does that mean im the only one who can fix it? i mean, if acura cant even find out whats wrong with an acura, where can i take it? yes it is a R, and they also told me max variance was 28 between any of them.

so what will cause these low numbers? does anyone know?somthing acuras overlooking? oh, and i dont know if they held it at WOT when they checked compression, were they supposed to? aarrrgggghhh, im going nuts can anyone tell me whats wrong with my car?

Is your engine warm while testing...if not this will effect your numbers ans cause them to be low...also are you holding it at WOT

In some cases insurance will pay for hydrolock damage, but I doubt it since the engine "runs" (albeit very poorly)

A different acura dealer

yes it is a R, and they also told me max variance was 28 between any of them.
Max by the book is 10% or 15% I believe.. 25psi with a max of 180 is obviously more than that.

Normally, bent valves. Have a leakdown test done.

oh, and i dont know if they held it at WOT when they checked compression, were they supposed to?
yes.

First, I would retest the compression. Do it yourself ... it's easy. Go to an autoparts store, ie. Advance Autoparts, Pepboys, etc. Purchase a compression tester guage ... approx. $30. Warm the car up to normal temp. Shut car off. Remove the fuel pump fuse. It's a 15A under the hood. The fuse box is in the pass. side upper corner (facing car). Remove all the spark plugs. Thread the compression probe into the first cylinder. Get in the car, floor the gas pedal and turn the ignition over 5-6 times. Have a friend read the number off the guage. Repeat for clyn. 3-4.

first off. thanks for all the help so far guys! just these few posts has helped more than any of those people at acura! Also, they did do a leakdown test, said everything was fine, the engine "seems" fine, feels strong, just not like it used to, which book did you refer to? helms? just want to make sure so when i present my case.

the only other acura dealer is in austin, and i like them even less than gunn acura, after that its a 4 hour+ drive. well, i guess the only thing to do is take it back and have them look at it again. im still open to any suggestions..thanks again guys!

What would happen if you don't floor the gas? Lower #'s as well? When I did my test, we unplugged the injectors but I did not floor the gas. I just tried turning it over 5 times.

First, I would do the compression test yourself for sure. What were the results of the leakdown? "it's fine" sounds like bad results if that's what they told you. Doing the comp test yourself would verify the numbers and make sure they did the test correctly. And yes, the "book" = helms.
