when im accelerating and then let off the gas in gear or out the car bogs down and slows very fast, and there is a noise during this deceleration that sounds like a grinding/rattling crrrrrrr. anyone have any ideas what it could be?

 

Maybe an axle

 

It only happens on deceleration, could it be the clutch or tranny?

 

when you let off the gas is the tranny still engauged? if so check your trans fliud

my mazda protege had a hand brake that was stuck in the clamped position for about 5 minutes and did exactly this. By the time i got out and checked it my rotor was glowing red and i could smell it. possibly seized caliper? its just a quick check.

 

mine did the same thing and it was the tranny, fluid was metal gray when it came out...

needless to say, i converted to a hydro gsr tranny...
