Default Identify my engine.

Hi all, I am new here to Honda tech and am hoping I can learn all about my Honda engine I have. I hope I have this in the right section.

Ok, so..

My Dad bought this engine a few years ago from a engine importer in Miami. My Dad told me it has less then 50k miles on it and he bought it for a Del Sol that one of my older brothers blew the engine in. The Del Sol never got fixed and ended up going to the junk yard (wish I had it now!) and about 5 months ago I got a 1978 Clubman Estate wagon (mini cooper wagon) that I am restoring. about 3 months into tearing down my Mini, I am at the point to where I need to start putting panels back into it. So, as I am saving money I am also thinking.... My Mini had a 1098cc carburetor engine in it, and when I drove it before I took it all apart, it was dog slow. My brother pulled on me with my 5hp go kart on a dead stop drag race. And I'm thinking... I drove this thing without any interior, only the two front seats and rear seats, and they weigh nothing, and I want to put all the interior back in it and more and by the time my Mini is all restored with the 1098cc engine, it's going to be even slower! so I don't want that... and I have this Honda engine, and want to use it in my Mini to make it get up and go.

All I know about this engine is that it is a ZC SOHC 16 Valve engine. I would really like to find out exactly how much HP it has, where I can find some online manuals or something to learn about it. I am guessing it is a D16A6? I'm not sure, but check out the pictures.

Any help will be appriciated!

Thanks! -Dan

Sweet, that is what I wanted to know.

Also, what is the specific name for this engine? is it a D16A6?

Any "D" series transmission, but since you're looking for fun I'd suggest an 88-91 Civic/Crx Si transmission.

On a side note, I like how the non-Honda guys who pop up on here every once in a while are a lot clearer in their requests for information and open minded to suggestions. to you guys.

ps- good luck, looks like you got a pretty straight clubman there

I know I was looking into doing an old mini with a honda engine, there is alot of guys doing it now so there is tons of info on it. although you would probaly get better info on a mini forum. If Im not mistaken on that vehicle you can stuff a "b series" engine into without have to move the firewall back. here is a page that might have some parts you need

ohhh snap they're making a kit for "k series" swaps now

That would be one fast and very fun coffin. I think there are some youtube vids of honda powered mini's tearing it up.

Oh yeah about the transmission. You have the option of going cable or hydraulic too.

ohyeah, I'v done my research on the Honda Minis. I'v also created a thread on Theminiforum.com but havn't had any input on it yet and it's two days old.

The reason why I want to use this ZC engine is because I already have it and it's paid for. I'm going to build a custom subframe for it aswell because $3500 bucks for a subframe from Minimania is just insane. I have the resources and knowledge to build a subframe so it's not discouraging me. I'll spend a few days desiging it on CAD and then have the Metal-welding shop nextdoor to my Dad's shop cut me some tubes and bend them to my specific shape and then I'll whip out the welder and weld them together myself to save some money. I am also gonna try and fab up some disk brakes off a older Mazda Miata 4 lug and use them in my 13x7 ultralite wheels I will need to get. I took apart my spindle off my Mini and it is soo simple and is perfect setup for disk brakes. I just have to have a half inch steel plate cutt for mounting the brake caliper. again, Disk brake kits for a mini are insanely expensive too! I think cooper S stock brake setup is like $1600 bucks! I either might make some A arms aswell or use the original suspension out of my Mini.

gotta alot of work to do but I can't wait! I wish I had $5k right now so I could get started haha.

120hp plus it turbo charged at around 5lbs of boost is going to be sick in my 150lbs empty shell!

OK, that subframe setup is just dirty. A lil pricey but looks pretty comprehensive.
Just sick, lol.
GL mate, keep us updated! I've always wanted to see what it took to put a Honda in a Mini.
