Can anyone give some tips on how to pressure wash my engine bay? Do I need to cover up specific things?

 

When I used to pressure wash my bay I would cover the Distributor, alternator, and the battery with plastic bags.

But what I tend to do know is go old school with some fabuloso from Wal-Mart and clean by hand.

 

just make sure and cover up all plugs, distributor, altenator and the battery

 

you probably dont even need to pressure wash it. let a good degreaser soak on it for 15 minutes and it should come out very clean

I'm super paranoid when I wash my engine bay. I will disconnect the battery and cover the distributor, battery leads, alternator, and fuse block. When you finish washing it, let it air out for a while or you can take an electric blower to it (what I do). Then once everything is dry, reconnect the battery.

 

You can cover it up or not its up to you. When I've done engines I've used Black Magic degreaser with some shine to it and it even says on the back no need to wrap electrical components. Ive done my Tundra a 99 cavy a 04 focus and a 05 chevy silverado also my 94 hatch i had and never covered anything when i did it and never had a problem with any of them! But at a detailing shop I worked for we would go over the car using a blow tip on the end of a air hose to dry the engine faster and then when your done you can spay tire shine on all the plastic just try to stay away from the belts because it tends to make them squeel. GL on your engine bay i need to do mine in my truck again b4 it gets to cold out.

 

I never have covered anything on any engine, I just avoid spraying things like that directly.

also what I have found that works great for plastics and stuff, is meguiars hyper dressing. water based and you can dillute it to your liking. spray it on a microfiber and wipe down anything plastic, doesnt leave anything sticky and "blends" really well once the engine warms up

Why don't you just do it by hand. I finished my engine bay in about 30 minutes. Rag, soap, water, tooth brush, paint brush, Megs Hyper Dressing. Instant Bling. Looks like it just came off the lot.
