sputtering but not starting issue
ok this started happening to me on sunday night. when i go to start my car it makes a sputtering sound like its not getting spark. so when it first happened to my i thought it was my coil. so i checked it out and messed with the spring on the coil because it looked damaged/bent. put the cap back on and then it started right up no problems. went to my friends house last night to work on his car and then i did it again. i know its not any of my battery cables because i replaced them with brand new OEM honda cables, as well as my starter switch, and the distributor is also a rebuilt one that i bought from my job (lifetime warranty with employee discount). so im assuming that if my coil is indeed bad im gonna warranty the whole sucker out and get another one. any ideas on what might be going on?
Does the engine even attempt to run? Or does it run and sputter? If it turns over and over with no spark the thing that I found to happen if not done correctly is the rotor screw backs itself out if it's not thread locked in and it will go right to the magnet in the distributor and the cam will continue to spin the distributor and the rotor will be all discombobulated.
More info would help?

its not the rotor, the screw is nice and tight. when it happens the motor will not run. it attempts to start, but no go. to me it sounds like its not getting a spark. i can hear the starter doing its job.
Igniter? There are igniter's on airplane engines that I work on, but not a Honda.
Have you checked for spark?
Have you checked for fuel?
How old is your PGM fi relay?
