Default Can I get rid of my ATTS diff. Will this work and how?

Ok so the ATTS unit on my car is a little jacked up. I was wondering if I can just remove it instead of replacing it. I know ill have to change the axle on that side, and ill need to know what will work, or if this is even possible. HELP!

Anything's possible but it's probably not worth the trouble. What's wrong with fixing the ATTS? If it's disabled then your transaxle will operate just like a normal open differential 5-speed.

get a base model transmission, the ATTS is kinda pointless.

That's useless without custom fabrication.

ok heres what ive been gettin out of my ATTS unit. sometimes the atts light will come on and shut the motor down somehow. I know this sounds crazy but ive tried everything I can to figure out if its somethin else doing that or not. All I can figure is that the ATTS is not working right at all and causing some serious problems. I looked up the service procedure for trying to fix my ATTS unit and alldata said it was a nonservicable part i just had to be replaced when it fails. So can I remove it and use, say an axle from a non sh prelude?t

Base and SH blocks are different. Can't just swap a manual transaxle on it and go. You will need some custom fab work to use a base gearbox.

I don't own a 5th gen but IIRC the ATTS unit is on it's own computer controller. It should not directly affect the way the engine runs.

I would continue to double check error codes and start wrenching, or find a drivetrain importer and get a full OBD2 base swap and replace the offending parts.

Huh....I wonder if im having issues with the ATTS controller? When I check the codes I dont have any that reflect this but like you said I guess I need to do some more searching. Would it help if I told you I am also having prob. with my transmission? I am not a trans tech. so im out of my element here. Thanks for your help!

Is your check engine light on too, or just the atts light. How are you trying to retrieve the codes.

Nah no check engine light. Ive been using my Modis scanner. The atts light goes off right after the car starts back up weater its when I hit the clutch or if I have to restart it. The light does not stay on. Thats why I was thinkin it might be a tranny issue now? Hell I dont know?

An obd2 scanner can't read atts codes. You have to do it manually. Jump the blue connector with a paper clip and count the blinks. The number of long blinks is the tens digit, short blinks is the single. There will be a pause between codes.

Yes, the small blue one next to the DLC.

1. Jump the connector with a paper clip.
2. Turn the ignition on, don't start car.
3.Count the long blinks, count the short blinks.

Example: 4 long blinks, 3 quick blinks...pause...9 quick blinks= codes 43 and 9

Is it completely killing your motor, or does it just make it stumble for a couple seconds when the light first kicks on? The ATTS control unit *can* interact with the ECU; if it senses a problem with the ATTS unit in mid turn, it will kill the ATTS unit and also I believe pull timing on the motor. It's designed to do this so you don't torque-steer your car during mid turn into something you didn't intend (I've had the kill enacted before, it's pretty weird).

What conditions is the ATTS light coming on? Is it there on startup or does it come on while driving? Out of curiosity, what year do you have? Also, in the event you do have to replace the ATTS unit, I've seen a couple go for $100 from people that were swapping over to a base setup if you don't want to try to fix yours.

Wow! $ 100.00 I looked the unit up yesterday with my parts guy and even with our shop discount it was $2,799.00 The more I read about this unit it sounds pretty solid. I dont rip around too many corners at full throttle, also I dont have too many upgrades. Heres the run down, I have a 99 sh with stage 2 clutch from EXEDY and a 12lb flywheel from ACT other than that I have some bolt ons but nothing internal. I have been paying closer attention to my car lately when I drive it. The other day it did this and the atts light did not come on, BUT the little green key light did. When the motor shuts down its like thats the only thing that is affected I pulled my foot off the clutch and is jerked like It was grabbing the gear , when I would push the clutch back in it would smooth out like its in neatral. like the motor was running but it wasnt. when it shuts off all I do is push the clutch in and crank the car back up.
instaed of the ATTS could this prob be due to the fact that my tranny is garbage? I am rebuilding it in dec. The tranny pops out of second gear when i let off the clutch and the throwout bearing is garbage. I know my tranny is F'd but could that be the cause of the motor to stop running??????

Find out the codes, it takes all of 30sec. Becoming hysterical over nothing is useless.

Did you say the key light comes on? This sounds like either an immobilizer problem or an ignition problem. Don't remember which years, but there was an ignition recall you should get checked out; either one could easily kill your car, but start back up if it's intermittent.

Yeah, the ATTS units are expensive to buy, but when most people get rid of them switching to a base tranny, they usually have nowhere to go or no buyers, so they offload them cheap (from what I've seen anyway).

This might sound stupid, but does your CEL actually come on with your other dash lights when you start the car?
