Default alarm backup battery question

What kind of battery should i get to backup my clifford alarm? Please be specific. Also, how would i get it so it wont run on the backup all the time, only when nessacary. cuz i dont want the backup battery to go dead quick. Or is there a way to get it to recharge itself. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

are you trying to rig something yourself? cuz if you buy a back up battery system made for alarms.. doesn't it ONLY use the power from the back up battery if the original power source (the cars battery) is cut? i think it recharges itself when needed and your alarm runs off your cars battery unless that power source is cut.. THEN it uses the back up...

Well since Clifford is now owned by DEI....the part number that you will need ( 520T) will be a Directed product. Don't worry it will work fine...the arlarm wont notice the difference...why should it bother you

I highly suggest dumping the battery that comes with the 520T. Replace it with a better larger battery.

----
. Never use any sort of lead acid battery even the sealed brick ones in the interior
cabin... You will know why when your carpet turns into swiss cheese...
----

I thought sealed brick are ok? Which should we/i use?

---
Ensure a service strain relief wire loom is available for remote charging, and have the appropiate female plug port to charge the battery...
----

Now this is a great idea...wow, thanks!

The 520T is a sealed lead acid battery, and is not sealed that great. Unless they have changed something recently. This is one of the reasons I recommend dumping it. A larger battery will not only be able to power more (like a pager) it will also last longer.

Ok, so you guys are in agreement that for battery backup the best deal is the 520T with a bigger/better battery? Because I'm ready to make my backup purchase/decision.

Just to double make sure

1) Does it automatically recharge off the car battery when the power feed is present

2) Is there a switchover time from when the battery is cut and the backup starting to power the alarm (which could possibly mess with the system) or does it act like a ups?

Thanks

I am using basically the same thing as you described. What I have found is that a company called http://www.idc-us.com is who actually makes the devices. Not the same as the one you described but similiar. So what all the different companies are selling is the service. I pay $5 per month, I can do things just the way you described land phone, cell, or via the internet . I can set a perimiter around the car along with a handful of other customized features. It will notify you by phone, pager, email, or however else you configure it. It comes vary close to giving you the exact address to where it is located, usually off by a house or two.

I am happy with the service. I put one of these on my motorcycle as well.

Just never tell your girlfriend you have a tracking device on your car
