lookin for the cheapest and most effective mods, for not just 1/4 mile but just a drag car but also keeping it reliable and street legal, trying to hold off on boost though. the motor has about 80,000 miles on it. looking to spend around maybe 3,000$. ive heard cams are a good idea.

boost will be reliable and street legal on a stock motor easy. its will be a great DD as still smoke most everything that stpes up on the freeway... while still getting good gas milage

For 3 grand I could build a B20 Vtec that revs to 9500 all day long....

Buy some good brakes, a badass LSD and a close ratio gear set.

even with the compression of the b16 it will still be reliable? it's my every day driver and i need to keep it for a while without putting money into it for a rebuild if she blows.

as long as you have a good tuner and you keep the boost low it would be fine. Your vtec houldnt kick til about 5800... 5 is way too low your just defeating the purpose. i have a jdm b16 with b16 lsd tranny and yes the gears are quick but im getting ready to go with a boosted gsr built with all ls internals as my daily. compression on a small boost motor isnt a worry if it is tuned and done right

people boost stock b16's everyday. they hold up pretty well as long as they are done right and tuned right.

For what? Hard parking? Next to the 98 ITR tranny I think the Mugen diff is the most important part on my car. I couldn't even imagine how unfun my car would be with some lame, worn out factory LSD.

Get a close ratio gear set and a good lsd, take out some weight and learn how to drive it. Fast driver is always better than fast car. That way you don't end up like the dude with the EX who locked his brakes and went into a curb.

I got a stock B16 with 4-2-1 header, cat back, Top Fuel J's knock off intake and I'll smoke R32 GTST's and Silvias.

Not to mention nothing is more reliable than stock.

IMO it's your call... Boosting is the quick cheap route of getting good TQ and HP but make sure you don't skimp on the tune cause it's the most important part. N/A is supposedly more reliable... So if you do go that route, go with better cams (i.e. skunk2 stage 1 or 2) and get it properly tuned. An LSD would make the car more fun to drive too. Don't get me wrong, I love my b16 tranny, but LSD's are fun to drive with.
