Default clutch alignment tool??

is this tool necessary when putting the clutch back on or is it just some expensive novelty to make the job a little easier?

The job is way easier with it than without. Even a generic clutch alignment tool from autozone or where ever. Imagine trying to move the tranny around so that the clutch gets in the right position so the tranny goes all the way on. Or, with clutch aligned, tranny slips into place, finish work smoke a bowl. The latter sounds way better to me.
