Default can i run components off a cda-9886 with no amp? also sub amp question

im trying to upgrade the sounds in my rs teggy and am in the market for a alpine cda-9886 HU. i want to upgrade the door speakers and add tweeters and was wondering if the alpine component sys will sound decent just running off the deck. Also, which of the alpine coponent systems would you guys recomend? i also have a set of JL 2 12w0's in a PRO WEDGE box i plan on throwing in with a rockford fosgate amp. Im not looking for anything crazy, just a decent sounding daily driver I think the amp im going to get for the subs is a p300-1... any help is appreciated since i was never an audio guru... just the go fast stuff

Yes you can drive components with just HU power, you will just not get the full potential out of the speakers.

The Alpine SPR-17S are 110W continuous speakers but will work with as little as 8W.

Ideally you would look for speakers with a high sensitivity rating, the Alpines are 87dB, find something in the 90s, generally a speaker with a lower continuous power rating will have a higher sensitivity rating and you do not need a 110W speaker when just running HU power. 94

would that be a good component set to buy now and run off an amp in the future?

Yes it is a pretty good component set, just don't damage them before you get the amp on them.

As for the amp, that will depend on which 12W0s you have, the 4ohm 8ohm or 12ohm.

The R/F P300-1 is 1x300W RMS into 2 ohms, if your 12W0s are 4 ohms and are wired in parallel then the amp is perfect, just overpowered enough, [300W RMS into 250W continuous] 94

The subs need to be 4 ohm, 2 ohm subs will not work.

Yes you can drive the Alpine components with the HU without damaging them, it's not the low wattage that hurts a speaker it's driving the low wattage amp into constant clipping, [over-driving the amp] that hurts the speaker, so do not overdrive the HUs internal amp, no more then 75% volume, keep the bass and treble flat, [50%] or no more then 75%, do not use loudness at volumes over 25%.

If you have been playing the system loud, [again, no more then 75%] for a long time, do not just shut system off, turn volume down for a few min. first, it will allow the speakers VCs to cool down. 94

I have a nice set of MB Quart components in my Del Sol and they sound great. I paid under $80 for them, brand new!!!

I got them (DSE-213) from here:

thanks for all your input so far guys! im starting to get this audio stuff alot better now, but i got a question for all u experienced installers... what do you guys think about having an amp powered component system for the front and just 6 1/2 speakers powered by the HU for the rear?
at first i just wanted a real basic system with some subs but now im leaning towards alpine spr-17s(4-ohm(8-110rms)) components powered buy an amp... what i wanna know is if there will be a huge difference in powering them with a f300(50x4 rms @ 4-ohms) or a f600(100x4 rms @ 4-ohms) and if i get the f600 can i turn down the rear channels to run normal 6 1/2 speakers??

I just read i can use the f600 in 3 channel mode 100x2rms @ 4 ohms for the front components and bridged for 3rd channel and it says it will put out 300w rms @ 4 ohms... i can use the 3rd channel to power my two 12w0 4 ohm subs right??

Get the "f600" and use it for front and rear speakers, wire the rear speakers in series and bridge the rear channels of the amp into mono, [3 channel mode], find a 300W mono block sub amp for the 12W0 subs, the "f600" is not stable below 4 ohms when bridged and is only 150W RMS into 8 ohms, [12W0s wired in series is 8 ohms].94
