Default Steering wheel from '96-'00 Civic into '92-'95 civic?

I was wondering if it was possible to put the steering wheel from a 1996 civic into a '92-'95 civic. I'd expect the horn and air bag to function as they would from the car they came from. The reason I want to do this is because they depowered the airbags in 1996 because earlier airbag implementations were designed with unstrapped people in mind while the '96 has strapped in people in mind, i.e less force.

I believe they actually de-powered the airbags in '97 or '98.

The wheel won't fit though. Different number of splines on the column IIRC.

I don't want to sound like an *** or anything, but comparing these two pictures, it looks like where you hook up the wheel has the same number of teeth, if that is what you're talking about.. ?

I can't even tell how many teeth are on each of those from those photos.

Everyone always points out they have different numbers of teeth though. This is why certain wheels fit on 6th gens, but not 5th gens.

You can go ahead and try it out though. Buyer beware of parts that won't fit.

Too bad search is still all funny. I had to use Google instead, and it brings up broad results by comparison.

Not sure about any of the other JDM wheels, don't recall if they have single or dual deployment.

Eran goes over more here, stating that 8th gen wheels will fit 6th gens, but not 5th gens.

nice and precise info.

You could change the steering shaft from the donor car as well, but that's a lot more work.

Did you have to replace the rack and pinion? Rebuild it? Is it separate? How much work was involved? Any guides that you could direct me to that may indirectly involve removing/adding the column? Would this be the same as adding tilt steering to a Civic VX which is the only civic not to include it?

i have no links to it but it was pretty easy. on the difficulty scale i would probably give it a 4. [QUOTE= Would this be the same as adding tilt steering to a Civic VX which is the only civic not to include it?[/QUOTE]

exactly swap the column by separating it at the spline by the pedals. hope this helps.
