weird idle problem when vtec pops

Default weird idle problem when vtec pops

well i checked all that everything is good. but some one told me to tap the iacv with a ratchet or screwdriver n see if the rpm drops it did so im guessing its dirty.. for some weird reason everytime im driving its good once my v tec pops if im off gear it just revs up to 2k wont go up or down even if i adjust the throttle.... do i clean it or need a new control valve help thanks

take it off and spray carb and choke cleaner through the little mesh type thing. let me see if i can find a DIY thread.

using the variable timing to help diagnoising something is probally the worst thing I ever heard. I dont even know how you can use idle and vtec in the same sentence since it dosent "POP" in idle. If I were you I would step away from any thoughts you may have about the vehicle running fine in vtec and not other times cause the vehicle is already in a heavy load and in fuel enrichment and could not use any of that to determine a idle. If you are questioning a IAC and you have a\c or p\s then with the a\c turn it on and when the clutch kicks in look for a significant drop and with the p\s turn the wheel all the way to the stop and look for the same. Basicly puts a heavy load on the motor and would cause it to drown out if it wasnt for the IAC and so if it dosent compensate then you can expect it to be at fault. and more info like what you are idling at and what it sounds like or anything you can offer could help us help you.
