Default 2004 Honda Accord Navigation system - dead!!!

hi everyone, I just don't know what to do w/o killing my bank account. Apparently, it will be incredibly expensive to have my navigation system fixed. It works for about 5 seconds, and resets itself. It's just enough time for me to adjust a setting before I lose control. I've tried to do the diagnostic and was able to for a few minutes to see that everything seemed to check out, at least on "system" etc. But it resets quickly.

It would appear its the in-dash system that's broken. I've replaced the DVD just in case that was the easy, cheap solution. Same exact results.

So, I've been looking on ebay for replacements. It's just so expensive.

Does anyone have any advice or help? Super appreciate it!
thanks!

There is a two pin connector taped to the wire harness just behind the navi unit in the trunk. Short that with a paperclip, turn the key on and see what happens.

I'll try and make this short. I was having different problems evertime i turned my car on. My navigation was under extended warranty. Honda took out the dash and had it for 2 months. I was told it was fine. Then Honda took out the head unit kept it for almost 3 months. Told me there was water damage and the warranty company won't cover it. My husband took it apart tonight and there is no signs of water damage. Replacement 3100.00. I am sending those pics to the Honda dealer where we bought the car. Very upset. Won't buy another Honda from them again. 400.00 on ebay.com for a replacement. What a waste of an extended warranty. Good Luck to you.

I had a similar problem on my '04 Accord at about 100k miles. The nav screen would freeze up, not react to any of the touchscreen commands, etc. I was fearful that the whole screen/ECM assembly would need to be replaced. My local dealer could not fix the problem, but they gave me the # to a team at Alpine that focuses on the stuff they OEM for Honda.

The Alpine folks had me remove the DVD/Nav unit from my trunk (very easy process) and mail it to them. For about $150, they replaced the CPU in the trunk unit and mailed it back to me. Re-installation was as easy as removing the unit from the trunk. I'm still using the original software DVD from 2004. The Nav unit has been working flawlessly ever since that repair took place. I'm now at about 147k miles.

Beantowncoupe, do you have the contact info your local dealer gave you for Alpine? I took my '03 Accord V6 coupe in that was having identical issues and got a similar response that 'something' was 'probably' wrong with the computing unit in the navi system.

So I'm now having a similar issue; lockups, navi reboots, stops responding, etc. I haven't used the voice control in years, but tried that recently & that doesn't work. The voice is severely garbled and does not seem to detect my voice.

Another thing is when it is working, I go into the trip computer & it's all zeroed out, shows range of 0, mpg 0, etc.

I'm guessing I need a head unit (screen, disc changer). I have a 2004 Accord EX.

Does anyone know of a good supplier, or are these repairable? I can't be sure I even have the right part # to look for.

Any help is much appreciated. I'm looking to fix things as cheap as possible.

Shaunvis, sounds like the unit, where the navi DVD goes, in the trunk is bad. Same thing was happening with mine, the motherboard was fried. It was not the head unit.

I sent my unit in to alpine for repair. I gave them a call to discuss options, shipped my unit, they looked at it, gave me a call before repairing, repaired, shipped, and now it's working great. Total cost < $200 including shipping. Here's all the contact info:

I know this is old, but I've run into the same problem. The number and address given for Alpine is still good, but the cost is now a flat fee of $358.00. Seems like a steep price.

Maybe this next question belongs in a different thread.

Are there any other options out there to upgrade the stock navigation system, and possibly keep some of the Controls for A/C, trip computer, etc..? What have other's done. Haven't found very many topics related to this.

Thanks.

I am having similar issue with my 2004 accord ex navigation. Honda dealer asked me $100 for diagnose but he was not sure if he can fix it or not. All I need are other options like AC options, setup on my screen. Does anyone have other options to fix this.!!

I've learned to live without it vs fixing it. You can still get AC/Heat to work with the normal buttons. Only pain is resetting the clock, which is now accomplished by disconnecting the battery, and reconnecting at 1 pm/am, which is what it defaults to after a reset. Alpine will repair the unit for $358.00 last time I called them.
