Default Megan header exhaust leak?

I recently put on a Megan Stainless Steel header on my 5thgen.
After a week while driving home one of the bolts where the "4-2" piece is, fell or blew off.
After pulling over i noticed 2 out of 3 bolts where there. Also my car sounds like its a V8 haha(idk how else to describe it) and i usually smell gas.

I put on a replacement bolt and the sound and smell is STILL there. Any Suggestions? the gasket didnt look like it ripped or anything.

Also aside from the exhaust fumes, is it safe for my engin to drive around like this?

yeah it's safe driving around like that, i was running open headers for about a week =[ until I also purchase megan racing headers SS. It's about 3-4 weeks since i've had the headers and i love them so far. I hope this doesn't end up happening to me. by the way your car sounds like a harley davidson huh? What you should do is bring it to a muffler/exhaust shop and they'll find the leak for your and fix it right up.

could do what i did. my car blew the gasket that goes between the 4-2 part, so i got some copper gasket spray.

Sprayed both flanges, let it sit for a few minutes to get tacky, and then bolted it together, and let it sit for a few hours before I started the car. Problem solved

I have a exhaust manifold leak right now too. I think I have a crack in mine though because I replaced the gasket and I am still getting exhaust in the cabin...getting headaches and ****...now the car is parked until my new DC headers come. Hopefully this will solve my problem.

Anyone know what else could cause exhaust smell getting in the car? I'm fairly certain its my header because it looks really old and rusty and I've checked everything else. I have a nearly new RSR exhaust system on that and the muffler shop said it was probably my manifold.

Hope you can fix your problem BB1LOViN.

I have the same prob with my megan header. Its a bitch. I might try that copper spray and see if that works. Seems like this is a very common prob for these headers. But at under $200 what do you expect.

If your careful you could put a LITTLE sea foam (buy from advance/ autozone) in the intake and when it starts coming out the other side check the exhaust system for leaks.

If you do use sea foam you will want to do an oil change afterwards.

Or you could take the header off and run water through it to see where it leaks.

Good luck.

thats a heck of an idea. . . i would have never thought of that. sea foam does make for a nice smoke screen.
