HELP - cracked spring!
So I'm hearing all this squeeking from the front right of my car. I just looked at it and sure enough the front right spring is cracked. I've been driving it for about 3 days now with all that squeeking, but now I'm really stumped. I don't have much money (probably about $300), but I need to get the car fixed asap. I will have more money coming in, like 120 a week. I know that eventually I will get the whole thing done - springs, shocks, or maybe a coilover setup. I know it's not a good idea, but if I bought springs right now could I ride on the stock shocks until I got shocks that worked better with the lowered ride..or should I just wait to do the whole thing? Any advice would help much...tia.

you could just put springs on over your stock dampers for the time till you can get new dampers too, but the draw back to that is you are going to have to take apart your suspension twice. You can put spring on your stock damper with no problem they wont blow out for a good 8 months.
So should i get stock ones for the front, or just wait and get good ones? Are you sure the stock shocks wont blow for 8 months? Will the ride be terrible? Best place to get stock ones? Best place to get aftermarket ones? Best place to get used aftermarket ones?

question1: i would wait and get all new shocks. Question2: i drive around on ground controls and stock shocks for over a year before they blew out, and i had roughly over a 2 inch drop. Question3: the ride wont be that bad it depends on what kind of springs you plan on running. Question4 the best place to get new after market ones i dunno. Question5: the best place for used ones would probably be http://www.thepartstrader.com, but i wouldnt buy used shocks, just because you dont know what the past owner did with then and exactly how long he used them for.
damn your cars a 1994..the stock shocks might not even be good anymore.. theres no way you can scrounge up a couple hundred and do the springs and shocks all at once? It involves the same labor to install springs onto stock shocks.. that it does to install lowering springs AND new shocks.. you you might as well do it all at once..
if your paying a shop to do it.. you save both time (yours and theirs) AND money (on labor) if you do both at once... if your doing it yourself.. you save yourself the labor of doing it twice....
you could get Eibach pro-kits (or most other lowering springs) for like $200-220
and you can get KYB AGX's for like $320 or so.. thats not bad for a total of around $500-550... remember that KYB's warranty is void if you go lower than 1.5"... if you want other dampers like Koni's or a coil over system it will cost more...but since your on a budget the KYB and Pro-kits or H&R OE or sports look good/good price... dunno just throwing out a suggestion to you...
if you don't have the funds I would at least do the springs for right now and do it yourself so you save money on labor...
heres some links for you that will get you through the install:
