Timing Belt Maintenance - Other items to do
Hi guys,
94 Accord EX with 125k miles. Due for its second timing belt change soon.
What are the general thoughts on changing crank and cam shaft seals and belt tensioner pulley at the same time. Are these prone to failing?
Also, the mechanic is willing to change the drive belts for no additional labour charge. Is this a good idea?
Thanks

replacing cam/ crank seals isnt absolutely nessacary, but you may as well since your in there. also check out the water pump if its timing driven.
preventative maintnence stuff keeps em runnin!
and sure if he wants to replace the drive belts why not let him, right?

Generally, the recommended interval for changing the timing belt on the 5th gen Accord is approximately every 90,000 miles. Some of the things to change are usually the timing belt, balancer belt, crank and cam seals, water pump, timing belt tensioner, balancer belt tensioner, alternator belt, power steering belt, and sometimes the oil pump seal, and maybe a valve cover gasket set. The oil seals are inexpensive, so it is good insurance to change them at this time. The tensioners may or may not replacement; but, also good insurance. There are many threads on this. See TouringAccord's DIY write-up for very good info. even if you are having someone else change it.
