I have a 92 accord. 4cyl F22a 5 sp. Mods: cold air, header, wheels, chip.

I need a new. Bought the car for really cheap because it had a bad clutch and i have been needing to replace it for awhile. Are the ebay clutchs ok? i dont do any track racing. I'm learning to drift but thats not everyday. I'm looking for a stage 2. Are the F1 racing or XTR clutchs any good? i read what they say on ebay but thats all marketing. Also, is it a pain to replace? i read my manual and its a lot of steps. Just havent done it before. I have changed driveaxles, header, whole front suspension, brakes, master cylinder, and some electrical components in the engine bay. With my experience would it be an impossible task?

hey i would try a perfection stage two zoom clutch. they have a kevlar facing, and arent real cheap but are worth the money.

use to run them in my dune truck... bulletproof

dont know your level of experience, but check your flywheel too. hot spots will destroy a new clucth.

Other than the issue of hefting and aligning the transmission, you sound golden.

EBay Items:
I look at it this way: If it's easily accessable (strut bars, and other such add-on items) I'm neutral about it.

If it's something critical to the operation of the vehicle, (Like a clutch. Piston set ect) I steer clear. I refuse to do a job twice. I would stick with a name brand here.

i agree... i refuse to do a job twice because of the simple fact that the job should be done correctly with attention to quality of parts.

work just cannot be stood behind if a customer wishes to use cheap parts!

as for ebay stuff like you say... is it critical to engine/ car performance?

Did I read that correctly? Learning to drift in a FWD Accord? How's that work?

 

fwd cars cant drive ... you must mean power slide ... anyone ever go tray bombing? ... you know ... you get two trays from mc donalds or wherever ... set them in front of your rear wheels ... drive on to them ... pull your e-brake ... raise ur rpm to like 3k drop the clutch and go nuts ... its way funner in the rain but you have to know wtf your doing

A parking lot, some ice and an emergency brake makes for some interesting gyrations; although unanticipated light poles and dry spots can really put a damper on things.

XTD and F1 clutches from ebay are not worth the money. They are just painted, modified OEM pressure plates and cheap off brand OEM replacement discs. They may seem to be a good idea because of the "stage 1/stage 2" la la la, the price and the hyped up claims of performance. After you tear your tranny out and replace it just to have it prematurely fail, you will regret it.

As people have already mentioned; the condition of the flywheel is crucial. You can't go wrong with a Honda OEM clutch if you have the money and don't plan on really beating it . LUK makes the clutches that come OEM in alot of cars and have a decent priced kit. Either way you will want a reputable brand clutch kit that includes the pressure plate, clutch disc, throw out bearing and pilot bearing. Buying a kit ensures the clearances and design between the individual parts matches and works together correctly.
With a manual and the right tools, changing the clutch is not as difficult as it may seem.
