Default '96 EX issue...

My mother watches this guy's little girl and he caught me working on my car earlier today. So he asked me about an issue he's having with his 4-door EX automatic. When idling it won't stay at a constant engine speed. It fluctuates a lot, and I know what it probably is, but I don't have a code scanner. Common issue?

You can retrieve CEL codes using the jumper wire method:

In addition, look for an intake air or vacuum leak. Also bleed the cooling system of possible trapped air.

The jumper wire method works for 92-95 Civics (OBDI) and 96-00 Civics (OBDII). Check the link.

I suggested that to him. I told him to go to Advance.

I saved the page for the OBD2 codes.

Thanks so much!

For the record, I used to be a parts guy/service adviser. And I know I should have searched. So thanks a bunch!
