youre gonna have to cut either way. the stock exhaust system on all the hatches had the cat on the exhaust manifold. there are no aftermarket exhaust systems for the hatch that will accommodate an ex/si cat. the ex exhuast will be too long for the hatch. a good muffler shop can fix that for you failry cheap.

ok..... so i just did a similar swap. I have a DX hatch with an EX swap (d16y8)

so when i pulled the swap, i took the entire exhaust system as well. Here's what i found:

1. the Coupe exhaust from header-to-axle is exactly the same length.
2. the Coupe exhaust from the axle-to-tip is about 3 inches longer than the Hatch.... this may be usable if taken to an exhaust shop for some cutting and welding..

So I am currently using the mid section from the EX Coupe and the tail section that was on my hatch to begin with.

So it all depends on what you need, i needed the cat on the coupe stuff, so i am running that along with a header, this way i stay legal. Hope this helps

Ummm... That would be an excellent solution, IF an EX hatch existed.

why dont u just get one from a speed shop have them custum fit it for ur car and then ull be all set and have them weld in a cat and it would prolly be cheaper than findin a stock honda exhaust

speed shop...definately not.....if you review my thread im looking for the following.....the ex header is on and im going to put the ex cat on...... i needed to know after the ex cat what piping would be best since not every bottom of the car is the same

one person said use ex mid piping with hatch axleback if i understood right....is that true does it all bolt up that easy cause if it does its wonderful

i still dont understand y u can just have some one with a pipe bender bend u the piping and then u could put on a factory muffler or an aftermarket one... y go threw the hassel of tryin to make somethin fit that isnt suppose to be there when u can get somethin that will fit perfectly and look good as well

not spending ridiculous amounts of someone to bend new piping and that crap, my pockets arent deep for that right now, just i need to get an exhaust on.... ex header, ex cat, now all i need is someone to help me out with what piping is the easiest to use and also from the axle back

This is what I did on my hatch:

1. used a 4-2-1 header that was made for an EX Coupe
2. used the stock mid pipe that was removed from an EX Coupe
*this is the exact same length as the DX mid pipe, yet has the ex cat after the header.
3. used the axle back from my DX Hatch
*the one i used was not Honda OEM, but i am sure that it has the exact same dimensions and fitment as OEM.
4. used OEM gaskets for exhaust manifold, front collector, and rear collector.

I had these parts readily available to me, so that is why i used them this way.. I have had ZERO issues with the fitment of this setup....... so i think that it would be safe to say that you can make this work with little effort.

hopefully this sets the story straight for ya
