CD player and clock aren't working....any thoughts?
I bought my 93 civic ex coupe several months ago. When I got it I realized that the cd player was shutting off from time to time. So I replaced the cd player, just thinking that it was overheating. When I wired the new one up nothing would work on it at all. It wouldn't even show that it was getting power. Upon further evaluation I realized that the stock clock in my dash wasn't working. I replaced the whole subharness wiring in my dash thinking that this would fix the problem...it didn't though. I am thinking about replacing the fusebox under the dash, thinking that it might have something to do with that. Has anyone experienced any problems like these, or have any advice for me? I would appreciate any and all help.
I checked all of the fuses....under the dash, under the hood, and in the back of the cd player. I checked all of those first because I figured and was hoping that it was something simple. I tried hotwiring the cd player just to make sure that it worked. It would only come on whenever I would connect both of the yellow wires to both of the red wires. When it did come on there wasn't any sound, and when I turned the key off the clock on the dash and the cd player would both reset.
Check the grounds on that circuit, maybe. Grab a multi-meter and see what's up on the subharness. How did you install the CD player? Did you use an adapter harness or did you just cut into the stock harness and splice off of that? Double check all your wiring splices for accuracy, as well as clean splices.
Did the clock work before you changed out the CD player?

If there are any wires shorted out in the radio area it will pop the clock/radio fuse in the under hood fuse box. I can't believe you're not popping this fuse from the symptoms you're posting.
I bought the wiring harness, because I don't like splicing wires just to save a couple bucks. I hate when people half-*** stuff. I haven't poppped any fuses yet..but I keep checking after I do anything just to make sure.

if your deck only works when the yellow and red on the deck side is connected to the red on the car side, then its either your radio fuse, or your ignition switch is fudged.... i highly think its your underhood back up fuse unless you spliced your ignition switch anytime soon
had the same problem my clock still resets which is really annoying but i ran a wire from the fuse box to my radio so it wouldnt reset anymore.
i've had the same problem you have.
you have to take the yellow wire off the radio harness and splice a wire (12 gauge i believe) into it, and run it to the battery. you could run it to the fuse box also, but i've heard from the pros, that its better to run it to the battery.
the yellow wire serves as a 'memory' wire or something similar. once you do that, your radio will turn on and you'll notice your clock will work again, and will also retain its memory.

you can, but why, when you can just run it to the red one, the red one should already be ran to a 12v source. yellow is ignition, not memory, memory comes from the constant 12v, aka the red freaking wire. blah blah blah, dont just guess answers.
check it with a wiring diagram, its best to start from there if fuses r good, a hanes book will come with one. And like they said before if your clock is reseting, check the memory wire be it red or yellow.. refer to the diagram!
