Default mold on radiator

well i made a thread yesterday about a musty smell inside my car, well that seems to be all situated.. (https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2423462 )

but now when i was putting my car back together after i patched the hole.. i found mold on the radiator support and on/around my radiator/fan.. I was just wondering if it's there will it find a way into my car? i wiped most of it up with bleach... but there is some i just can't reach without yanking the whole thing.. would it be ideal to replace the radiator & fan, or should i just leave it alone after my 80% clean job?

before i started wiping:

i didn't take an after picture.. got to dark

any advice is welcome!

but my question is, if i leave it, will it matter? or should i actually go use the high pressure washer? i'm cheap too.. but i'm just looking @ the options.

would i need to cover up my distributor cap/battery for that? or just spray away?

It's definitely recommended to, I've gotten both wet several times with no concern. Plastic bag will work just fine.

Also, the radiator isn't supported by much, just a couple o' bolts. Can leave hoses on and all to get to the rest of the mold. I take it you have no clue what caused it?

No need to clean it, it'll be dirty next time you drive your car.

I highly suggest replacing your radiator now, because that's not mold, that's coolant that has seeped out under the pressure. see the greenish spot on the radiator shroud? that's a coolant puddle. I had the same issue on my car last week, my friend had it on his prelude a few weeks ago, as well as my dad's accord and my old coupe. the plastic bond gets weak at the metal and it slowly starts leaking. check your coolant overflow tank, i bet it's a little low...

if you don't believe me, pop your hood after you've been driving for a while... assuming you have enough coolant left.

Radiators aren't cheap, but if you search around you can find them <$100 new. 30 minutes of your time and a gallon and a half of coolant left, you'll be back to perfect. Although you may want to check your upper and lower radiator hoses while you're at it. Those are a cheap maintenance fix and are a huge PITA when they blow because they'll cover your whole engine bay in the dookie-smelling coolant.

SoCal EJ1; maybe the darker green stuff is coolant, but trust me the rest is mold..

davus; I'm assuming it was caused by sprinklers hitting my car every night in my works parking lot.. Just sitting and then the heat from my radiator? that was just my guess.

That seems strange... as mold doesn't just grow in places like that. The strange smell you're smelling could possibly be your coolant, as it smells like crap, but I'm only speculating considering i'm not even there lol. regardless if the lighter stuff is coolant or mold, you need a new radiator brother
