Going H2B Daily Driven. Transmission suggestions?
Hello guys.
I plan on going H2B within the next 2 months. I have read everywhere and I feel confident in the swap now. I have everything planned and I am now waiting upon my funds.
I have one last issue though. Which transmission do I use?
Everyone says the b16 is the shortest geared and that I should go for that.
Sounds awesome to me. If you ask me, go ***** to the wall. Go big or go home.
But that's only really awesome to me if I go to the track every weekend.
I'm looking for suggestions in something that would be most efficient for gas mileage. So I'm looking for a longer geared tranny, but not something so long that it defeats the purpose of even going to a b series tranny. Do I make sense or am I a fool? =P
Moral of the story, I like my 35 MPG. If there is a way to go H2B and maintain that I'm all ears.
Thanks guys!

more like 23-26mpg with a h2b swap
b16 tranny with gsr 5th or ls 5th gear will do for what you want

That 35 MPG is coming from my d16. =P
Ok so a b16 with an ls 5th. Sounds like interesting stuff. I'm not entirely knowledgable with transmissions. How would I go about putting an LS 5th gear in? And what that would do is almost act like an overdrive going from 4th to 5th correct? If thats a bad analogy I apologize in advance =P

My H2B eg is my daily driver and i can tell you its going to get worse gas mileage then the d series no matter what. I went with a b16 tranny with a ls 5th and 4.7 final. The short gears kinda suck on the streets but you will get used to it. And yes having a ls 5th is like overdrive my rpm's drop alot when i put it in 5th. I personally would have someone put the 5th in for you if you dont have tranny experience
Also what kit are you using for the h2b swap? If its the evo kit and you already have bought it. I would suggest putting a stock b-series fork on and getting there new slave adapter to use
I was going to use the QSD kit. Yea I know nothing about tranny's =P. My brother does though! Can I buy a 5th gear/final drive from some website? Or do I have to find someone parting out a tranny

Gotchya. Sounds good =P. Is the mileage really that terrible guys? Kinda sucks but that's the price you pay for being able to haul *** right?
If your brother messes with honda tranny's maybe he would have one?? My tranny guy had one and i paid $100 for it. And yeah like LA said your goin to get anywhere from 20-28 mpg depending on your tune and foot control. I went from a d15b8 which will get around 40+ to this and i think the power trade off was worth the extra money at the pump
Hehe. Yea premium is pretty cheap here too. My brother actually has a performance shop for GM vehicles [Corvette's in particular]. He's VERY knowledgeable with cars. I trust his judgement on everything. He's also going to tune my civic when I get my swap =P.
Wouldn't it be better to go with a b16 1st 2nd 3rd the gsr 4th and Ls 5th. Thats what i was thinking about doing. I think a b16 with a ls 5th would feel kinda wack IMO....
Why would it be whack? Thats what i got and yes hitting 5th drops the rpm's alot but it works great on the freeway and ill still have good pull through the traps with the b16 4th
