2008 Honda Civic NAV to AMP
I'm looking to use my stock Navigation unit (in a 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid w/NAV) to connect to my aftermarket amplifier (NOT factory). The NAV doesn't have RCA connectors so I had some work done using RCA converters. Unfortunately there is no output being produced. Is there a trick to this? Is there something I need to know to get this working? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I dont believe I have a sub-out. I did not have the premium audio system, just the NAV unit (with factory amp). As far as the LOC, that was installed today and supposedly I'm getting no output.
I'm 100% positive the AMP + speakers are wired fine (I'm actually putting the stock navigation unit back in my car after the aftermarket was stolen. The aftermarket worked great). They seem to be absolutely lost as far as getting this NAV unit to output to my amp. Is there some other trick involved or are these professional installers just incompetent? Thanks.

okay, i've dome some research...
there is way more info for your civic on http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/audio/
if you have the nav or premium, the speakers are externally powered..
so the nav/premium headunits use line-outs instead of speaker outs... (ie: you don't need line out converters)

i guess you could do this, but instead of doing it so you can use the factory amp..
u use it to use the factory line outs...
thats all i can come up with.

First off, thanks a lot!
But I'm slightly confused. Here's what I understand. My nav unit doesn't have speaker out, it has line out. This hits my factory amp which produces the speaker outs.
So what's the suggestion? Should I bypass the factory amp, or use the speaker outs from the factory amp into my aftermarket (I'd rather avoid this, because every part of the stock audio system is a complete piece of ****).
Sorry if I'm being an idiot, but simply what is your suggestion? Thanks again for the help.

you said that you are replacing an aftermarket head unit...
and you have an external amp already installed in the car...
how was the aftermarket system installed?
If the aftermarket system was wired to bypass the factory amp....
that means your main speakers were re-wired to the aftermarket head unit's internal amplifier.
all I know, based on info from the other site, is that the factory nav head unit doesn't have a built in amplifier, so all the connections are line-out levels...
therefore, you have to undo the factory amp bypass - from the first install.
now you also have an (ONE) external amp, i'm assuming you are using it to run a subwoofer....
once you undo the bypass, have the LOC tap into the rear speakers...that way the amp has a signal.
----------
basically you need to tell the shop to restore everything back to factory specs...then install the sub woofer to the factory system.
Honestly, go to that other site, post your question there..
i don't own a 8th gen civic... just was bored so i looked **** up.

Ok, thanks for the help.
FYI, no I don't have a sub. The setup was extremely simple.
Aftermarket head-unit = 4x RCA -> amp -> indoor speakers (components). No subs.
But, as per your suggestion I'll post elsewhere. Thanks again.

if the 4 speakers were powered by the external amp
just use the line outs of the nav unit... and splice rca connectors so that you can connect the factory nav unit like an aftermarket unit to your aftermarket external amp... and also tap into the light blue factory remote lead....
=========
you don't want to run through two amps, if you don't have to...
