Car almost got stolen
Hey guys, my friend car got broken into and they snapped the steering lock off. The ignition coil is fine, I was able to put that back together. It seems that the ignition coil was bent upwards though as they were trying to snap the steering wheel. We were able to bend it back into place but theres still this wierd noise it sounds like metal/plastic grinding? We can't put our fingers on it. But it's when you get into a certain angle that you turn the wheel it gets harder to turn and it makes a grinding noise.
It's hard to argue, some of my friends said it was plastic rubbing or metal rubbing. I can't put my fingers on it. Any ideas?
I was thinking that the steering wheel lock got all messed up and now I have to take out the locking mechanism or someshit out. I was told I was going to have to drill the lock out, or something.
Don't need stupid comments like search and ****, or flaming. I already searched, I got nothing but ignition coil threads. I think it has to do with my friends steering column.

Trust me it has nonething to do with the ignition coil. Thats in your dizzy not the steering colume. When they went to break the key cylinder they did not do it right-rookie's thank god- they put pressure on the steering colume. Depending on how bad it is the key cylinder is going to have to be replaced. Worst out of worst is the whole colume. What year car.
Ditto the above^^^, remove the lock cylinder/steering lock housing, test the steering wheel travel, if it is still "binding" you will need to replace the steering column, if not install a new, lock cylinder/steering lock housing and your good to go.

You will need ti drop the column ti access the shear-head bolts that clamp the housing to the column, center punch them and drill them out, housing will pretty much fall off.
The ign. switch is removable [two Philips screws] the key cylinder should also be removable.
