Default Is it worth chipping my ecu for a stock engine?

Sorry for the noob question.
I have an OBD-0 B16 with stock internals, just intake exhaust. Its my daily but just wanted to know if I stood to gain anything from it. thanks

Not really

If you take into consideration the cost of Chipping the ECU then tuning it on a dyno. Cost per hp gained for just a bolt on application is not worth it IMO. Not to mention those gains all depend on the quality of the after-market parts that you bought. If they are not a tuned quality you may see a drop in overall power or the parts may just shift the power band up or down in the RPM range vs actually adding more Hp/tq.

worth lies in the hands of the spender.

personally i believe tuning makes a world of difference even for stock motors.

Agreed. I added a Stg 1 cam and GAINED mpg by fine tuning part throttle.

Without any dyno time or further tuning, what kind of benefits would I see from a chipped OBD-0 ecu? I realize that it depends on the program, so what is a good starting point?

Another option I have is to upgrade to OBD-1. Would going OBD-1 (stock maps) be a better choice?

From experience I have learned that unless some wideband time is available, you are best off going with a stock ECU (I think OBD1 is superior).

Until I tuned mine and it never ran as well as the stock ECU, even though it had a good chip and pulled well. The idle was crazy erratic and it sometimes wouldnt start.

obd1 would make it easier for tuning and having a chipped ecu might give u a lilo more power...

well if its a stock motor i wouldnt convert but if it was fullybuilt or boosted i would cause crome has better tools for force induction when tuning then obd0 editors have.

x2

also to add, you'll have the ability to turn off couple of sensors when worst comes to worst that you can't find them readily available for replacements. i.e. 02, KS, ELD, etc.

it's also be a good initial investment when you start craving for more power in the near future.
