Default One Last Prelude H23 SE header question

Found many headers for 2.3L honda motors, but all of them said nothing about the SE (special edition). They were all for Si, excluding SH or something like that. I was just wanted to make sure that a header for an 92-96 Si would fit a 92-96 SE. The other thing was, when i look at the DC sports 4-2-1 header it looks nearly identical to the cars stock header. I know the stock ones flow pretty well already, can anyone attest to this being a worthwhile upgrade? Or if anyones ever slapped headers on the prelude SE, let me know which brand you went with, what gains you saw...ect. I do know of smsp and hytech, but i just decided to go with DC and be a cheap bastard...any compatibility help would be much appreciated. Links would also be great! thanks

Some people say the stock one flows better than the DC. If you're gonna buy
a cheap one I would get a Megan over a DC. Honestly I wouldn't spend any money on either of them. Just keep saving your money till you read up a little more and decide what is best for you. I would start saving for an h22a.
Then when you have the money saved up, run a 75 shot of nitrous on your
h23 with colder plugs and retard the timing a few degrees. You'll have fun and
feel a real difference in power versus a 2hp header.

Oh i've researched. Engine swap will be later, not looking for a track car yet, just a torquey daily driver. Just worried the engine might be getting choked due to lack of a header upgrade, i have intake and exhaust on it, just never got around to the header part. Gonna slap a pressure regulator on it as well and maybe some larger injectors along with a tune and see where it puts me...i know it wont be that impressive, but w/e, it will be better. Next will be cams
as for nitrous, that will never happen lol

And speaking of timing, i advanced mine by about 2 degrees the other week, before i have the car tuned, should i set it back? Or, doesnt really matter?

The stock H23 header isn't that great, so people do pretty well with the ebay/dc style (while people with H22s don't gain so much, since the OEM H22 header is a fairly serious effort).

There are a few threads around here where people have dynoed them.

It would be interesting to see what a H23 could pull with a serious header, like a SMS.

Yeah, im trying to buy one, but just having a hard time finding one specifically for my engine, NONE of them say anything about the SE preludes. I guess the 2.3L nonvtec just doesnt get love from aftermarket people. So if anyone knows of a header for the h23 non vtec that makes decent power, please post a link or something. SMS does not make any for the h23 yet, but he did recently obtain an h23 head and f23 block and is working on drawing up the flanges and whatnot. I just dont wanna shell out $1200 for it. A DC one should do, at least it would complete my exhaust system and make it worth tuning. I figure after i get some stage 2 cams in there, it should be a fun engine to drive.

Yep, the SE Prelude is exactly the same as the Si as far as engine stuff goes. I would go with a Megan H23 header...

from what i understand the h23 oem header actually isn't good at all.

The DC sport header is over priced in my opinion. I would get a cheaper one from ebay. I've seen ceramic coated DC header get rust all over them.

I have the cheap-*** dc STYLE header for my h22, and the only rust is from where it hit a drive way, and caved it in and scraped it up pretty good

The SE and Si have the same h23a1 under the hood.

Yar, found a DC for about 350, dont think it came with a downpipe though, but decided to go with a megan one, or even just an ebay one...which im really sceptical about, but ima look into it more. Thank you all for the help and info

the not so name brand header isn't as bad as you'd think.
Its lighter than stock, and in the h23's case, the tubes (primaries) are bigger.

the only issue I've seen with aftermarket headers is they don't bolt to the back of the block like the oem header does.

The no-name knock off header I got for my h22 came with ALL gaskets, and ALL bolts needed to put it on my car.

This is just my view......BTW i'm glad u didn't buy the DC header that didn't come with the downpipe (b-pipe)

Yeah me too, especially considering that both the DC and Megan headers have the same dimensions, are both mandrel bent and dyno tuned. Thats probably all you can do really till you get into the $1,000+ ones that are precisely engineered and have that sexy argon back purging. Trying to find one now, either megan or some other reputable cheap-o header that comes with all hardware needed, b pipe and some test pipe to lead past the cat. Hopefully my tuner will be able to supply some mandrel bent pipes to replace my crush bent ones.
