stage 3 oil pumps for a b20vtec motor
For all the tuners on this site the question is should i install a stage 3 oil pump on my b20vtec project? I have a b20vtec motor which has a golden eagle block guard 12:5-1 supertech pistons, rods 27lbs crank etc. etc. Im about to install a golden eagle block girdle kit also to strenghten the bottom end. Ive been researching this company called tornado that makes oil pump upgrades and was advised that if i rev beyond 9000 rpms i should consider installing a stage 3 racing oil pump . What do you guys think? I want to get maximum power out of my motor but dont want to blow it either. Give me some insite im open to opinions. thanks
use a OEM 96 Oil pump..
Hit someone up and get a ATI damper pulley..
Many Many people had issue breaking pumps until them went to a ATI crank damper .
I broke 3 oil pumps on the same motor.. Got a ATI.. Never broke again. (yet)

yeah i got an Ati dampner also with the greddy timming belt . How much horses are you making out of your motor? I was told that a good b20 vtec motor tuned plus the correct parts can produce close to 300 hp na
go to you tube and dial in b20vtec dynoed i think its a civic pushing about 265hp and on the same site b20vtec in puertorico a 12 second street driven integra with no slicks

hey
i got a oil pump from Apocalypse power and it works quite well.
i had a brand new OEM oil pump on before and i believe the bearing clearances in my fresh build are slightly on the loose side. my hot oil pressures would only get up to about 50-60psi at the most.
when the oil was extremely hot and it was 55psi or below vtec would not engage.
after i installed the modified oil pump which has a noticeable difference in the inlet and outlet ports size for flow. i now get a solid 80-90psi of oil pressure constantly when over 3500rpm. a little less pressure when the vtec solinoid clicks on. usually around 70-75psi in vtec.
i have had it for a few months and everything is working great. you can email them and he will answer all your questions and will take good care of you if you have any issues.
Apocalypse
for anyone who is wondering you can purchase those pumps on ebay thru their on-line store.

I think i will go with the stage 3 oil pump from apocalypse. He emailed me back and told me it was 425.00 new which is a good price for a very good part. Im trying to build a very reliable motor and not scared to invest money on good parts. I just got my golden eagle block girdle kit and send it to the machine shop so i can get my motor lined honed . I will post pic when Im done with this project. thanks guys for the positive opinions .
i just went with the stage 1 pump with a upgraded 83mm gear rotor. i was not aware there was a stage 3 pump.
i would think anything more than their claimed stage 2 pump is overkill and extremely unnecessary. what exactly are they doing to the "stage 3" pumps?

not sure but thats what he recommended but i also checked out that web site theoldone.com and he fabricates racing oil pumps at a fair price too.
actually endyn takes your new oil pump and ports it pretty much the same way apocalypse does. only difference is with apocalypse you get a new cnc billet gear rotor and the cost includes a new oil pump assembly.
endyn charges around 140 just for the modifications and you have to supply the pump.
either way you will get more oil flow and pressure...

actually they can supply the pump for you. i think i paid around 240$ with a new pump, modifications shipped to my door. they do very good work.

EnDyn FTW
There's a few things you can do to your pump yourself and you also can't forget to modify the oil passages in the block as well.

To be honest i just bought a 5.5qrt moroso oil pan with vtec pick up planning on getting the apocalypse oil pump and also have the golden eagle lsvtec oil line kit . what else do you think i should do?
Cancel all that, lol, I was reading 2 posts at the same time...
But for serious, I've only got a VTEC oil pump and radiused & polished the main oil galley in the block.

I havent dynoed this motor set up yet what else do you think i can add? I road race some times but want to take this to englishtown for a 1/4 mile run.
I havent put this motor in yet but 228ho isnt me , howmuch you think ill make off of my set up with the correct tune and dynoed?
Have you considered taking your pump apart and porting/polishing and shimming it? It's helped us d series guys go 400+whp on stock sohc oil pumps...I've yet to do it to my b16 yet but when I go b20vtec i'm def going to take a look and see w I can do with it.
