Beeping after new ignition column install

Long story short: Thieves broke ignition column (99 civic hatch), bought a used one off of NOFX/Eran and replaced the broken one with the used one. Everything is perfect other than one small annoyance. The beeper for a key being left in your ignition goes off no matter what when I open the door. In other words, if my key is in my hand (not in the ignition) and I open the door, it will beep. Also, the beep for leaving your headlights on (which I believe is a different tone all together) does not go off when I open the door with headlights on. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Edit: Please don't tell me to simply disconnect the beeper or whatever. I would like to fix the problem, not cover it up. Thanks.

The headlight beep won't occur since it's pre-occupied with "key in ignition" beep. I've been getting this issue intermittently on my 96, somehow moving the key around in the ignition slot while removing makes it go away. Does yours -always- occur, and is there any way to make it go away?

Yeah, that is what I assumed was going on. Nope, unfortunately it isn't intermittent. It beeps every time the door is open regardless of the key position.

if your car came from Canada it will have a negative keysense wire that will be blue/white or blue /red ..... it needs to rest at 12 volts and drop to zero when you put the key in..... if its not seeing a ground it will think the keys in the ignition .... so if you have a ignition out of a USDM car the key sense wire wont be there and the beeper will keep going off ..... this is just a idea i hope this helps

Canadian cars are a little different because of there immobilizer laws they have.....
thats why a canadian model will have a keysense wire and usdm ones dont... if theres no keyless model you can look in the green factory alarm plug for the keysense .....

I was under the impression that his car was just built in Canada (like all US hatchbacks), not "from" Canada.

Someone help me with my complete confusion! haha.
heres what i would do ..... first check to see if the keysense wire is there ... if it's not ...it's not your problem
.... if it is to fix it correctly you are gonna need a Canadian column ..... i'll do some research to see what else it could be
