Default Do subs "wear out"

I've had the same infinity reference 12's for about 2.5-3 years, and it seems as though they aren't as "tight/crisp" as before. I'm running them off of a JL e1400d amp with my stock headunit(monsoon for a grand am).

Lately i've been considering an upgrade but i've been out of the scene for a couple years really and don't know whats up anymore.

So if anyone can reccomend something for an upgrade or suggestions let me know.

I've thought about going with a BRUTUS from hifonics for an amp upgrade hopefully something closer to 1000 watts. And some subs to match.

I am impressed that the Infinity lasted that long.

Hifonics to me, seems like a company that is holding on by a thread. But people like their stuff.

Anything by JL, Rockford (still not as good as their old stuff), Diamond, etc.

I have used Diamond Audio's TDX in the past (2002 I think). I have been using RE XXX for the last 5 years. I currently have a 2003 and 2007 version. The 2003 version is louder than the new one in a small box config. I have used ARC, JL, and USAMPS amps.

Right now I recommend the US Amps for subs. I have an md3d, and I cannot hurt it. The Arc 1500DR is still running. It was repaired twice in my first year of ownership (2002 or 2003).

yes, subs can wear out, from long play that once so stiff spider and surround does wear out and become loose, just as your sub breaks in, over time the elements will eventually fail, more in old paper cone, foam surround subs, newer stuff uses butyl rubber surrounds, stronger cones/ baskets, better coils and better tinsel leads.
Yea i would go with RE, that guy ^^ is right, try it out i had a RE MT with a memphis mojo 2000d on it and it held up to anything i could throw at it, also i'm a firm believer in this brand "elemental designs" - http://www.edesignaudio.com they give a 5 year warranty on there subs and amps and offer package deals.

For 450 is this a solid deal? also would i be better off using two subs. I like really loud. I'm an old PPI user and would love something super "bassy" while semi crisp

i wouldnt buy it. . . . . but my term super bassy goes to a hole new level, (4 15" memphis pr with a memphis 1000d in a 91 crx si still under construction) but it depends on how much your willing to spend spl cost how loud do you want to be. . . but if you want one sub and want it to be super bassy the box has to be tuned and the power has to be right . .. i will bump memphis in at least one of my vechicle's till the day i die but if your wanting some crazy bass check out fi audio if you want some proof check out stevemeadedesigns.com
