Default Mid Pipe broke off at the Cat converter Friday night

How hard is it to replace this by myself in the driveway and would it be smarter to just bring it to a shop?

Thanks!

I picked up the midpipe. It's pretty straight forward as long as I can get the bolts off of the midpipe.

I would bring it in, but damnit I'm broke!

mid pipe broke off at the cat converter, did the cat break or did the pipe break? if the pipe broke it'll be easier to get like a muffler shop to weld one on real quick, if you need welding, take it to a muffler shop.

The cat is totally fine. The midpipe broke directly where it's plate is that connects to the cat. The way I see it is it's 4 bolts and I'm done. Just need to get the two bolts off the cat. Then it's replace gaskets, spring kit for the back and done. hopefully!

open headers= bullshit ticket up the ***. i think you need to get it welded. if the cat is fine, then the piping broke off somewhere. and excuse for an upgrade=].

Dude, that's only if you're rocking a single cam slammer slow enough to get caught!

Besides, loud is fun. And it'll get you laid. duh.

Get what welded exactly?

The cat connects to the mid pipe with two bolts and a gasket. The mid pipe then runs to my rear pass side tire area and connects to the rest of it with the spring kit. What would need to be welded?

2 bolts? are you mixing up the cat and the header??? if i remember correctly, the header to the cat is 2 bolts and the cat to the pipe is 3 bolts.

You may be right about the third bolt, but even then, what needs to be welded?

well. if you got it mixed up, from the motor it goes, headers(top and bottom piece) then cat then pipe then muffler.

then i think you might be talking about your cat broke, not your pipe. if your cat broke then just unbolt it and buy a new one, if your pipe then you need to weld a little bigger pipe around it so you don't have an exhaust leak. look it up and make sure you have the information straight. miscommunication is a bithc

heres a pretty good honda looking header. an aftermarket one though.

thats from the motor going down towards the cat.

thats where the cat goes, notice the 2 bolts on the header side and 3 bolts going to the pipe side.

and obviously the pipe part is the pipe, and you can see how it needs to get welded if the pipe broke, either welded or get a new pipe which is a waste of time unless you plan on upgrading.

Damnit, I should have just searched for pics. Anyways yeah, the mid pipe is definitely the broken one. Completely seperated.

New pipe is 100$, and I'm positive I can do it myself.

okay, you got it right. you might as well upgrade to a bigger diameter, if you want to. and it might be easier to unbolt the passengers side lower control arm. with the car in the air. or get an estimate and weld a pipe around it, might be cheaper if your just looking for a cheaper fix, what they'll do is cut around it so theres a space, and then welded a pipe in between it. its up to you though, changing the pipe isn't hard neither, your money, just throwing ideas out on how you spend it.

Yeah, thanks.

The pipe isn't fixable because it broke off directly at the plate that connects with the cat, where the bolts go through. That plate is very rusted, so I don't see that being a good idea. As for the bigger diameter, well it's not really necessary for me since I'm keeping everything stock.

So really, spending the 100$ on the new midpipe is really my only choice at this point. Unless I find a used one of course.

Ive had something similar happen to me. The exhaust shop was "99%" sure my cat was fine. About ten miles down the road my car just did. It bent a valve,im guessing becasue the cat was damaged internally. Id make a test pipe.

Just throw some diesel 5" exhaust on, call it a day! No backpressure for the win. JK, but if you're gonna be workin on your exhaust, upgrade it while you're at it...
