It's ok and you don't have to do anything special. Just fill her up with synthetic.

Yes, you can just "throw" in synthetic oil -- it's fully compatible with conventional motor oil -- but since you've made it 87k miles in Miami without it, what benefits do you expect to gain now?

well he is going to have longer intervals for his oil changes... also synthetic oil has certain aditives that help run the engine properly

I switched mine to synthetic at 30K miles which is when I bought the car. I change my oil every 5000 miles, which some people still think is too often since it is synthetic but oh well. It seems to be a well proven fact that synthetic will net slightly cooler running temps, and even slight increases in power. I have seen in magazines (not advertisements but REAL publications) where they have gained up to 6 HP just by running a certain brand of synthetic oil. That is crazy. And a guy with a top fuel dragster came into my work (NAPA) and was talking about how they did 8 full speed runs down the drag strip without changing the bearings or rebuilding the motor on Royal Purple, which in a dragster is UNHEARD of. Also down at the circle track one of the guys racing had his oil pump fail and did 3 whole laps at 8000 RPMs in his 700 HP small block chevy without any oil pumping through the motor. They took the motor apart after the race and there was NOTHING wrong with it. Put it all back together and it ran fine. Once again, on Royal Purple. It's up to you. I say it is never to late to start!

^^ That's because synthetic oils have higher thermal tolerances than conventional which breaks down way before synthetic.

For a daily driver, Mobil1 should be fine. I'd use RP if it was a racecar, but it's not

Use Valvoline Syn Power. It provides 4X the wear protection of Mobil 1 at a lower price. It has never let me down.

I use Mobil One. All of Honda's factory oils are made by ExxonMobil and so I figure you can't go wrong. And plus Mobil One seems at the top of the Synth game. You can get a case of 6 for 30 bucks at Costco where I live. That's 5 bucks a qt. for synthetic. STEAL!

Umm, no. One can change back to conventional petroleum oil after using synthetic.

May be true, but as far as OEM fluids, Honda MTF SUCKS! I would never use that crap again. Even the "new" formulation by Idemitsu is garbage. RedLine MTL is far superior. I have never used Mobil 1, too much hype, it is probably fine, but you can't believe that OEM fluids are automatically better.

Btw Mobil 1 is a good oil but its not a full synthetic oil like Royal Purple, Motul, Amsoil, RedLine or Castrol Syntec...

I personally use Motul for engine oil and brake fluid.

but you also believe your motor will not run "properly" w/o a synthetic oil? got me there, since Honda OEM is not synthetic...... I rock Mobil 1, Wal-Mart has it for $23 for a 5qt jug of 5w-20(OEM Specified weight). You must ahve a highly efficient setup to warrant Motul oil.......

I run synthetic because it doesn't break down as easily as conventional oil does... I time attack my car and do lapping event nearly every weekend so I have a reason too... Also Honda Oem oil is actually semi-synthetic fyi...
