The 690 is a pretty big bike for SuMo. A 450 is a better balance of weight and power.

450 >*

I also like the crf450 with the super moto conversion. or yz450f.

690 would be fun on the street but more work on a technical track

Yea, that'd be fun as hell....until you need to change your oil every ride and check your valves every other ride. The maintanence is too ridiculous for those bikes to even be considered for street duty. Now a DRZ400SM or an XR650R SuMo'd would be a better choice when compared to the 450's.

The only thing I dont like about the 690 is the gas tank being located in the rear, seems like an awful lot of weight needs to be moved around. But other than that they seem like awesome street supermotos.

If u just want a track SM theirs better SM's then the DRZ, But for the street the DRZ is awsome for the price. You can pick a used DRZ for pretty cheap these days. I own a 07DRZsm and price and maintanence is awsome, I have 8,000 miles so far without any probs.

I have a friend that had a 919, then a RC51, and now he has a KTM 625 SMC...in pieces. He bought it used. He found out the rear shock was blown. It took him a little bit to find a US company that services WP suspensions, but he got it fixed for 300 and was psyched. He reinstalled it and took it for a ride. He was going around a turn and his bike just locks up. The transmission ceased...shattered gears and the case. Replacement parts are either in stock or takes 4-6 weeks to get...if anything. If, after 6 weeks, the parts still haven't arrived from Austria, US companies just cancel your order. WTF.

They are nice bikes, but the repair experience is ****.

I honestly think a 690 Duke will be my next bike, if I can afford it. There are several people on SVR that have them and wont shut up about how great they are. They sound like almost the perfect recipe for fun on the street.
