replace a restrictive cat convertor. its basically an empty tube with flanges to eliminate the catalytic conveter guts

Go to the junk yard, buy a old cat for your car. Knock the inside out it with a pipe. Install it on your car.

But you didn't hear that from me.

most junk yards do not sell old cats. there is more money in melting them down then there is re-selling them used. plus i am sure they can't re-sell them because it's a part of your emissions and all that stuff should be in good working order. not old.

They're for tuning. When you start a tune from scratch, you run rich with retarded timing. That will destroy a cat converter in short order. Once you get the tune dialed in, you put the cat back on. If you drive on the street, then there is absolutely no gain from removing the cat converter. Only very serious, dedicated race cars benefit and then mainly because their tune would destroy the cat anyway.

No matter what state you live in, you get caught w/out a catalytic converter, the EPA will seize your car and crush it and there's absolutely nothing you can do. Everyday ricers cars are being crushed. Even some very high end cars. You can find videos of that on youtube and elsewhere.

Some people think they are sneaky and they hollow out a cat. Not only does this cause more restriction than having a good cat, but the highway patrol is smart enough to tap on it. It's plainly obvious the difference in sound between hollowed and functional cats.

blah wrong. very very wrong. in areas such as mine where alot of vehicles registered are farm vehicles we do not have to take emissions. there is no inspection of our cars at any time. so i guess my township of Illinois is the exception to your rule... (even though im sure there are more)

hes right though about why they are used and how its kind of pointless on our cars, unless your turbo'd then you might actually notice something other then a bad smell and loud noise.

get a high flow cat the same effect, but not so loud and annoying and you can pass inspection

and yes i know its dyno proved for more power with a test pipe but seriously whats 2-3 hp

and the law is different for every state there's no point to argue over it
