95 Del Sol Start Up Whine
Sometimes when I start up my 95 Del Sol (48K Miles) I get a whine (no radio installed). I shut off engine, start again and whine goes away. Might have to do this several times but whine does go away. The belts don't appear to be slipping but I have not tried belt dressing. Colder it gets more chance of whine. This has been going on for several months but is now getting worse but still hard to pinpoint. Sometimes there is slight electrical smell. No indication of charging problem but whine is coming from right side of engine where alternator is located. Any thoughts??
my car whines every morning when its cold started. i dont worry about it at all cause after a couple mins when i actually go out to drive it, the whine is gone. if it is terribly loud though im not sure for you. where do you live? ill take the car off your hands if you want.

well usually a whine can be the cause of of an alternator or a water pump, i doubt it's a water pump because my ej1 does the same in the morning, and electrical smell may be in result of the alternator,
try this. let the car idle and when you don't hear the whine try to put a load on the alternator by turning on your defroster and headlights, if the whine comes back, i'd get the alternator checked out by your local parts store
