Default 1995 2.2 Head Gasket

I have some head gasket questions on a 1995 2.2. Does the intake and exhaust manifold have to be removed to do the job, and who makes the factory gaskets for Honda. I see companies on the web advertising their gasket sets as OEM. I have found in many cases you can buy the same items the factory uses for a better price, but most aftermarket parts doesn’t fit well unless you find the factory supplier. Does the dealer sell a head gasket set? I worked in a Honda dealer a decade ago and at that time most mechanics would use a cheery picker and removed the head complete.

If you can solicit the help of a couple of local midgets, and a chain fall; it is possible to do it with the manifolds attached. But if you take the example of another young man who posted here recently; he missing an important mounting bracket and took out the side of his block.

It's a matter of good practice, I disassemble everything. I don't want to ever do a job twice. So it all comes apart, it all gets cleaned and inspected and all new gaskets are used.
Just make sure you either take detailed pictures or mark everything before you dissassemble anything.

Believe me, it is well worth it.

The only part that looks had to do is get to the bottom bolts on the intake, but it is a big clumsy intake to remove with the head. I saw the other member’s post with the block damage. I am going to take my time with the job. I worked at Roush for awhile where you would take a brand new car down to a shell and have to save parts that were never made to be reused like plastic clips for trim on Fords.

I would like to know if anyone has had experience with the Ishino head gasket set. I try to use all Honda parts unless I can find their supplier.

I didin't take off the intake because I looked underneath and there was no support that attaches to the block and the intake manifold so I left it on there, but there was a harness connected to it and some various wiring that I forgot to disconnect so it made it a little of a pain. I did take off the exhaust mani though.

If I were to do it again, I would probably take off the intake manifold this time around.

I took off the exhaust manifold and left the intake but unbolted it from the head. The timing belt rear cover melted so the engine pretty hot what all should be checked with the head removed.
