Default buyers beware type r conversions

Buyers beware when buying front ends. I will not list names but there is someone out of orange county california who is selling front ends and leading people to believe they are real type r black housing headlights when in fact they are modified chrome sir'g that has been painted. I know this guy makes a lot of money selling these. However, I believe everyone should know exactly what they are buying and base their decision on the facts. I have not seen anyone post any complaints mainly because they probably don't know. Hopefully this will help someone.

The JDM ITR headlights came in 2 versions...

The HID version and the NON HID version. The HID version has the kit connected to the back of it and the headlight lenses are also different...It has a circular spot on the lens, which is cleared out, so that it can produce the best light from the HID...

On the non HID housings, the lenses have the lines running throughout the headlight, they do not stop. These lines help scatter the light produced by halogen bulbs, but they disturb the HID bulb output...Thats the reason why Honda decided to make different lenses.

As for telling the difference between the ITR and painted SIR-g headlights...i have no clue.

I have not seen it on here but if you go on ebay and do a search for "integra type r conversions" you will know who i'm talking about.

Rule of thumb: if the lights looked like they have been opened that should be a red flag already. Usually you will see the tabs on the top of the lense and glue messed up.

The con is that this dude is probably selling these things (chrome housing headlights) for like 3-500 more than what the market is selling at because he painted the housings black, which can be done with like 50 bucks and an afternoon of your time.

I agree, it saves someone the hassle of having to paint them yourself. It still an oem part. I don't see a big deal with it.

Oh yeah?

http://www.n1concepts.com/Inte...d.htm

Basic conversion (chrome-housing non HID headlights) start at 1300, and the "choose your options" bar allows you to switch to black-housing non HID headlights for an additional $300.

you forgot to mention this:

All front end conversions with black housing (HID and non-HID) headlights come with a JDM Integra Type-R front lip

That might add to the price difference there.

Yeah I missed that... good point, but figure a lip is like 150 so an additional 150 for the black housing. DIY black housing doesn't cost anywhere near that much. Also, that's the cheapest prices I found anywhere online for the conversion as that's where I ordered mine from.

But I could see why someone would just buy painted chrome-housing headlights instead of the real deal but it all depends on how much this "scammer" is jacking up the price.

Whatevers, just letting you know it is not real black housing you are getting. That person won't tell you that. If you are okay with that buy it but I got my front for cheaper than that. Basically you are paying for Sir-G for 1200 bucks with lip. Same as n1concepts. It could be a misleading good deal is all I'm saying.
