Default Accords vs Preludes

quick story

the 5th gen accord is my first car and im starting to regret not getting a 4th gen vtec prelude after this happened to me

i was coming home from a friends house on the freeway. i was driving my 96 accord ex, stock except for ground control coilovers and yellow koni shocks when a 4th gen prelude passes me quick. i tried but couldnt even catch up.(i completely mashed the pedal)

can anyone out there restore my confidence in the 5th gen accord?

1)car, gen, ect.
2)quick list of mods
3)story against a prelude(winning or losing)

You realize it's an Accord right?

They're grocery getters unless you mod them.

i realize that and chose it because its uncommon to mod compared to integras and civics . just want
some hope that my accord has potential and its not a waste of time/ money.

put it this way;
140hp Single cam Accord vs. 195hp with dual cams.
Its ganna be expensive, and very time consuming to make your accord hang with a prelude.

Appreciate the reliability you're driving.

Start off with a Short Ram intake. If you're cheap on cash, look on ebay for one.
Exhaust Headers, and/or Catback exhaust.

That'll give you a little more pull..but you still wont be hanging with a stock prelude. Also, an automatic transmission is going to slow you down.

Look in the FAQs for some things you can do to improve performance.

prelude's were that everyday fun/sporty car from honda... while the accord was the family/reliable vehicle.
They are similar, but diferent purposes will lead to diferent results.... although they share things in common.

I love my CD5, and... even before i rebuilt the motor for more power, the car was fun to drive and i was surprised with the cars i was able to "keep up" with every now and then....

well, they were built for different purposes, if you think of the "purpose" of a prelude, you can call it reliable too.

You can get 200k, 250k... 300... or even 400k miles from the "f" series motor on the accord. The transmisson on the accord will help keep the rpms "low" (compared to a prelude) most of its life... generally saying.

Well, the I/H/E is a good basic, go for suspension/brakes... and that should keep you on you toes for some time.
Good relialble power doesn't come cheap, so... "will add 10hp" <<<don't believe on that..haha
I remember my car full of bolt on mods and still 33mpg.. so... yeah.. you gotta love an accord.

I say keep the Accord, maybe when you can afford it do a H22A swap.
I have a JDM Accord Euro R, I love the fact that its a family hauler that packs a punch (217BHP from factory!!)
I've always been a fan of the Gen 5 Accords, just a shame you guys dont get the H22A fitted from factory there.

The H22A have WAY shorter lifespan than the f-series in the Accord. I love the Preludes, but they are like a high maintenance good looking girlfriend. The H22A requires premium fuel, and eventually, it will start burning oil, and I have not see many high milage preludes. I think a 200k mile Prelude is as common as a 300k mile Accord. Simple RPM calculations will tell you that the engine in the Prelude (with the short ratio Lude gear box) have to spin almost twice as fast (double RPM) to go the same speed, thus I would think that the engine gets double the wear that the Accord engine gets.

i have faith in the accords. eventually a stock prelude shouldnt be a problem.. yes the h22 is common for burning oil eventually. on the other hand the f series is awesome when it comes to mileage, my cd6 is at 210k miles and still pulls as if it was brand new.. just keep the accord and invest some cash into it.. you'll love ie :D

Hey bro... its an Accord.

The Prelude is a legitimate sports car with a high-strung engine. The Accord was designed to be reliable, quiet, commuter -not a high revvin' sports car. two different animals.

Accords get their engines replaced because either they're over 200K in miles or someone never maintained one correctly and had a timing belt snap/no oil/some other negligence.

Preludes get replacements because someone over revved the engine and spun bearings/blew head gasket/threw a rod/ at 10K rpm.

Instead of blowing your money trying to make it fast, spend it keeping it looking good/nice stereo/good looking wheels/etc... unless you spend $$$ on a turbo kit or an engine swap.

since when were preludes sports cars? or any honda for that matter.

your accord probably weighs a good 30 pounds less than a pig-heavy prelude.

h22 bolts right up, stock mount apprenatly. find yourself a p28, a zif socket and a 28 pin EEPROM and a good cheap $80 eprom burner. download uberdata off of the pgmfi archievs. download yourself a basemap to what looks similar and play with it from there

edit:
accord 2,855
prelude gen 5 - 3,042
prelude ( 4) 2,822

Straight up, if you like two doors with small back seats and sporty go for the prelude.. If you want space, better gas mileage, reliability stay with the accord.. Not sayin prelude isn't reliable but when you mash your car all the time it tends to wear on the car, and prelude is more of a racer stock..

I have a 94 accord EX right now as a project.. Drove it as a daily driver before I started serious mods but it could get up and go for the few things I had done to the 2.2 VTEC engine. But honestly if you want more speed and want an accord an H22 swap would be perfect.. And its not as expensive as ppl say if you do your research.. you could get it swapped and low mileage H22 for like 2500-3000 with axles and tranny. Im an accord fan and looked plenty times for myself. ;-)

TRULY THOUGH if you get either a prelude or stay with the accord your still driving a honda and they are the best everyday cars every made!!!! So were happy with whatever honda. ha
