JDM F22B, no spark
Hi, I am new to the Honda scene, but I recently picked up a 92 lude with a "JDM F22B" swap.
The car will crank, but not turn over. There is power going to the coil, but the coil is not firing. The dizzy checked out within spec, as does the coil, which leads me to the ignitor.
Where is the ignitor located on these engines? It looks like I have an ignitor located on the firewall, drivers side (small square gray box w/ slats), but a few diagrams I pulled off alldata point to another internal ignitor intergrated inside the dizzy. Is there somehow 2 ignitors, or is one of them from the old engine set-up?
Is there anything else I could check?
*edit*
also I have read that the f22 is a non-vtec engine, but the JDM f22b is equipped with vtec. how can I tell if it is vtec or not?

look for a vtec solenoid, should be right behind the valve cover, on the passenger side
and for the spark think, try getting a new ignition controll module, have fun because its a hitachi and its like $205. i bought one and that wasnt it, but you never know. also you may need to check your grounds, all around. make sure that nothing is shorting out. lmk

Ok thanks, I will check for a vtec solenoid.
As for the ign control module, where is it located, and is there anyway I can test it?
I wasn't able to find any diagnostic tests for the ignitor, so I was thinking that might be the culprit.

the ign control module is in the distributor, under the cap, and it has 3 wires on it, 3 little connectors.
btw what year is the vehice? if its 97+ get a code reader, if not do the check engine light with the paper clip in the connector for obd1 preludes

It ended up being the ecu/efi fuse that is sort of by itself in the cabin fusepanel. Odd thing, there was a blown 30A, I replaced it with a 15A (what should have been there) and it started up fine.
Is the ign control module held in place by 2 screws? If it is, then which is the ignitor?

look on the valve cover to see if it has VTEC. if it says VTEC on the valve cover, it'll have vtec.
Also, make sure u have the right ECU for that motor. Hopefully who ever did u swap didn't' replace an f22a1 with the DOHC non-vtec f22b. If u don't have a p14 ecu, you should just get an ECU for the h23a1. Its basically the same engine, just with slightly smaller bore.

The valve cover has no indication that it is vtec.
The motor is an f22b, but does not indicate which revision f22b (if there is more than 1...) it is.
I do not know which ECU it has, but it seems to run ok.
What would happen if I didn't have a p14 ecu?

it depends if it has the right ecu for it.
Have you pulled the ValveCover off the engine?
Does it have 2 camshafts or just 1? from what I've seen, the only F22B i've seen is the dual cam that's pretty close to the H23a1
If you don't have the right/similar ECU...the car doesn't run right.
I don't even know what would happen if you tried to run a DOHC motor with a single cam ECU, or vice-versa.d
I know the H22 runs on an H23 computer, just no VTEC and a 6700 rev limiter

No I haven't pulled the vc. From what I've read, the f22b is the JDM engine from the prelude si, and is non-vtec but dohc.
The car seems to run good as it is, with the exception being surging idle at times, but I was going to look into the fitv/iacv before I looked at the ECU...
