Default 35mpg wanting more

stock 91 standard hatch. Aluminum 13inch wheels. Everything else stock. Little d15b1 engine.. Getting 34-35mpg every tank. Coasting, drafting, accelerating only on downhills...

Thinking of riveting on a front air dam also possibly a hotter temp thermo valve... I have a full sized radiator (caus of the AC unit).. So it takes a long while to warm up.. And even then I never see the fan running because the temp isnt even halfway on the guage. Actually the needle covers the bottom bulb thingy of the temp icon on the guage

Any other easy mods that can get me 2 or 3 more mpg's each?

I want 40mpg average (only seen that once after tune up and drafted a semi for an hour)

Sounds like your thermostat is worn out opening too soon. When have you replaced that last? Napa and other parts stores do sell a higher temp thermostat which is a necessity around my parts in the winter if you want the car to be able to warm up while it idles. Otherwise things you can do is get rid of weight from the car, take out your extra junk, you can also adjust your vavles on the loose end of the spec to cause more of an internal EGR effect, and the tried and true Obama advice inflate your tires

Just like Nutnwrench said, try taking all the exess junk out of your car (if there is any), do a tune up, check your tire pressure, and mabye do a MPFI conversion. I'm sure it will give you a little better mpg and a little boost in power

Nooo! Don't do the MPFI swap... that will actually decrease Fuel Economy. The DPFI is more fuel efficient than most think. It sucks from a power perspective but is more fuel efficient as long as you stay light on the throttle.

Check out the link in my sig...

I'd suggest looking into changing out the thermostat, adding a grill block, and a warm air intake for the winter.

Not to sure on which ones are the best but gear ratios do wonders. My fully built B20-R gets me 32mph on the freeway with my LS 5th gear and XSi 1-4th. And I'm running a very rich tune.

If your really serious then you could upgrade to OBD1 and run hondata with a wideband. That way you can tune it specifically to have a perfect burn and different throttles and rpm's.

I know an old guy around here with a crx who's getting over 50mpg...and it's rocking Mugen goodies too lol real OG

replacing all your wheel bearings may help as well. It is expensive to do, but i bet you would get 1-2 mpg higher if you did it, especially if they are original.

i did a multi point conversion on my sedan, and done a mini me with a y8 head. everything is converted to obd1 and running on a virgin p28. aem short ram intake, test pipe, dx trans and blown out stock muffler (lol) 13 inch steelies n stock size tires inflated to 35 at all 4 corners. got 41 mpg and i live in the mountains. it got 37 if i dogged it all the time. dont

also have a gsr swapped 94 coupe with a b16 trans, skunk pro intake manifold, hytech replica header, test pipe, 2.25 inch dc sports cat back, slammed on rotta circuit 8s with 195 50 15 tires. running it on a chipped and tuned p72 and getting 37 mpg driving normal, and about 25 mpg beating on it lol.

good fuel economy can be acheived with ne thing realy. just have the car in perfect running condition, and drive easy, but not too easy lol.

single cam vtec engines were desighned for feul economy without sacraficing perfomance, so you sorta get the best of both worlds. just keep it outa vtec if you want great mpg.

skunk2 intake manifold, short ram intake, greddy header/exhaust manifold.
2 1/4 piping with a v8 ford truck muffler lol really quiet it down and
keeps me from getting pulled over from the cops. oh and helps with the back
pressure.
