Default keep snapping exh manifold studs. full race ramhorn.

i have snapped 1 twice, and 2 at the last event.

i have looked at the arp kit, but there is no way in hell that long of a stud will fit there.

one i get one off tonight or have nasteboyii measure one, i am going to see if mcmastercarr has them in stainless.

any other ideas?

i cant be overtightening them, i am using an open end wrench on them he hee.

only thing i can think of is that i have had this head since it was on my b16 in 00.

and been apart probably 10 times and the studs have had enough.

Make sure the nuts are seating flat against the flange. Sometimes the flange of the nut hits the weld of the runner and will cause it to put a bending force on the stud. Something like that is going on, they don't break for no reason. We usually have to turn down the o.d. of the flange on the nut.

these are 12mm headed non flanged nuts. i have a box of them because of having to use the open end.

i did run into that in the begining thats why i went to the non flanged nuts.

thanks for the reply tony. i think you are still on the right track though.

crappy pic, but for what its worth I thought I would show you the ARPs in with a ramhorn mani. Granted I made my mani and its not a full race, I cant imagine it being much different for clearance. BTW thats an SLS flange, I am not sure if it differs much from a full race flange

It's snapping as you are working on it right? Not while it's sitting/running?

after a pass.

and in the above pic looks like you can still ge tthe box end on the nut, it is next to impossible to do that on the fr ram horn.

i know ive never broke a stud from a turbo setup. I also know ive got a nut just about seized on to the stud and almost completly rounded off, im pretty ill about that.

I have broken one on my street car before. The main issue that I have is that they will back out and cause a small exhaust leak. Also it is a Full-Race ram horn manifold.

Wouldn't happen to be hitting the DP on the return road? I know mine hits with the slicks on on almost every car i've had. Just a thought...

i had thought it may have been from engine torque. i have hasport urethane mounts, but there is no exh any more, and i dont see any impact marks on the dp from hitting.

i am chalking it up to them being tightened as a set over 15 times through the course of my life with them.
