Not much torque and power starting off from stop on first gear.
I was wondering if this is normal for honda's D16Y8 to slow off the start with the accelerator pinned to the floor on first gear.
Powertrain has no more than 600 miles after rebuild.

the Y8 seems to pull over 4K till redline.

Its a 1.6 litre man there isnt going to be ANY guts on it really. I've got a d16y8 also and untill vtec (5500?) its worthless lol. So your not the only one, there suppose to be like that. Best bet is to swap or turbo IMO. Goodluck!
At what RPM are you getting it moving? They don't seem to wake up until 3,000 RPM at least, so if you're driving it like you have something like a GM Quad Four it isn't going to respond in quite the same way. OTOH, if you are getting the revs up and nothing happens, something may be wrong.

ok so I'll bite
is it a manual?
if so get a light weight fly wheel
7lbs if going NA
10 lbs if planning on boost
that will help you accelerate faster
reducing the rotating mass plays a big factor
but you don't want to go to light on a boost application
because just as you build rpm's faster they fall faster to
less rotating mass
in a boost application this can hurt by the rpm's drooping out of the boost range in between shifts (but can be less effected if transmission is re-geared... don't ask)
so the long story short
replace your flywheel and you will notice a difference
not anything major but it will be better
and use the opportunity to upgrade your clutch as well (action 2md

I agree, I've also got a d16y8 w/ 7.5lbs fidanza flywheel w/ Stg2 centerforce clutch. Id say that was the best $300 I invested in that engine. Also I noticed a acceleration gain with the flywheel and also when I installed my Unorthodox underdrive pulley too. But as stated, its a 1.6litre and isnt going to have alot of getty up and go before 4K rpms.
wish i could punch my lil 4 cylinder in 2nd gear and not have it rip the tires to 9 grand i almost forget wat its like to have traction. swap the motor.
