Default 90 Civic D16A6 Died today, why?

I was driving to work, and everything was fine.. car was running great... after 9 miles, the car started to shutter a bit, then died... I filled up the day before with ethanol gas, not E85, but the low ethanol mix. I have done this many times in the past so I don't think this is the problem.

I have replaced the fuel filter, checked and made sure I have spark out the plugs, and charged the battery.

What are your thoughts?

I can hear the fuel pump turn on when I turn the ignition on... I'm clueless... need your help guys

Will it start? Did it cut off when you pushed in the clutch or let off the gas?

Will not start... It cut when I pushed the gas... When I was accelerating just before it died, it would struggle for a split second, then when I tried to start from a stop, it died... clutch is fine

Car has 188k on it... what are the chances its bad gas? Bad fuel pump?

check your distributor? sounds like a sparking problem in the ignition system.

I pulled a spark plug and turned the car over and it sparked... which part of the distributer do you think is causing the problem?

I have an update:

Last night I was messing with the car, and got it to turn over. It ran like ****, but it was running. The idle was irradic, and would run fine, then suddenly misfire. If I could get the RPM's over 1000, it seemed fine... I tried giving it more throttle after I was over 1000 rpms, and it would start to stall and the rpms would go down...

Ideas?

Also, I checked the main relay, and its fine. Checked every cylinder, and I hae spark at every one... Also, I can hear the fuel pump kick on everytime I turn the key to the on position.

One thing that I did check was the distributor coil... when I tested the ohms at the leads, granted I didn't disconnect the wiring from the plug, but unplugged the looms from the car, it read 1 ohm. Manual states it should be between 0.3 to 0.5 ohms.

Think this is the culprit?

replaced the ignition module, runs now... great.. however the car shutters/misses very slighly sometimes... not at high rpms, rpms around 1k-1500 in a low gear like 5th,

You think this is from the new fuel filter and having air bubbles in the line? I drove 10 miles and it was fine, even put it in 5th and floored it and it didn't lose power... just shutters every once in a while.. very momentary.. only one cylinder does it

anyone? I started the car this morning, and misfired here and there at idle so I waited for it to stop. After it stopped I drove approx 9 miles w\o shutters, probably cause I never went below 50 mph. Stopped at a light, and it misfired a bit in first and that was it.

Anyone have an idea what is causing it?

I just replaced the fuel filter, plugs, distributor cap/rotor, and the ignition module.

maybe check the timing to see if the timing belt is going bad. my car ran like that for the 5 minutes before the belt broke =P

checked the timing belt, and its basically brand new, not slipping...

One of my thoughts is that the fuel line has air in it from when I changed the fuel filter

drove it just now, and under more throttle it bogged down... didn't die, just felt like it wasn't getting any power... is this the ecu? RPM's were steady, just wasn't firing, like the ECU was cutting power...

What is this from? Could it be from the fact that I probably have a whole ton of fuel in the exhaust from trying to start the car n the O2 sensor is freaking out? Or the fact that the fuel filter isn't clogged so bad anymore?

Did you check the timing of your timing belt? Make sure your injectors are on good.

And what about the air filter. Maybe its bogging bc its not getting enough air and to much gas. Or vice versa??

try thiss. drain ur gas tank. put a gallon or so of clean fresh 87 or 89 gas. be carfull here!!!!!!!!! open up the inlet line on the fuel filter have a friend turn the key to on to let the fuel pump prime to remove air bubles if there is any. put it back together and crank her over. if she runs fine it was that Ethenol mixed gas

Could be a bunch of things but my first thought was your ECU or wiring, I had ECU and O2 sensor problems in one of my EG civics and it ran horrible.

I noticed that my distributor had a lot of play in the shaft, the side that connects to the engine... would that be causing my issues?

the odd thing is that I replaced the ignition module and it ran fine... 25 miles later its misfiring horribly.... I hardly got home... I thought possibly the whole distributor was going bad... u think? Ran to work, ran like **** home... weird
