Default Aftermarket Deck Install with Cut Factory Harness

Hello,

I just purchased a 99 Honda Civic Dx with an aftermarket deck already installed. However, it seems like the owner before was a complete idiot, since he cut the factory deck wiring harness off and connected the aftermarket deck directly.

I am looking for a new deck, and I want to install it properly, what should I do?

Should I try to find an OEM wiring harness and get an aftermarket radio harness, just to make my life easier if I want to get another deck? Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks.

Just reconnect your aftermarket deck to the existing cut harness wires. Once its cut, you cant go back, without replacing your entire wiring harness......

http://www.metraonline.com sells new aftermarket harnesses, car side and radio side, you could purchase a 70-1720 (radio side) and a 71-1720 (car side) to replace the cut harness, but you would need to butt or solder the wires. You can also purchase a plug and pin "kit" and crimpers to make your own harness, but I would say butt connectors or solder on your new deck harness and run, its behind the dash and you will forget about it over time.

As mentioned, just hard-wire the new HUs wiring to the cut leads.
Also as mentioned, [kind of] once the leads are cut there really is no point in reconnecting a stock plug just so you can use a harness adapter so you don't have to cut the stock plug off, in fact a hard wire is a better way to go, connection wise, as it eliminates 3 connection points on each lead. 94
