Default Stay away from Honda auto trannies or not?

I'm looking for an automatic civic or corolla for a friend, probably a 92+ civic or 93+ corolla.

i'm just wondering if the honda auto trannies are time bombs and should be avoided or is ok to have one?

'92 - '94 civic automatics are pretty decent, at least in terms of how tough they are, shift quality could be better though. The '95s i've seen a seemed to be worse, they have a different tranny for that one year (M24A for '92 - '94, A24A for '95 only) '96 - '00 seem to be a lot worse.
