Default Trans Fluid questions

My 3rd gear is starting to clip/grind again when I take second to redline. The trans has been out once already @ the dealer at 11k miles to have it rebuilt under warranty. The car has 16k on it now. This is not a fault of the car, only my abusive driving style.

Question: What is the best "snake oil" to put in the trans to post-pone the inevitable, pulling it out again.

I would like to hold off at least 2-3 more months and do it in the late fall. I know That the fluid of choice on the board is Honda MTL, but what about short term, cover-up the grinding fluid?????? Redline, Mobil one, Gear oil

thanks Mattj

Stick with the Honda MTF... From all the posts I have read, it is just as good as the others... as for the grinding noise - I am not sure, but, I do not think MTF is gonna help, regardless of what brand. Thats my .02$.

Yup... about 15 min. done deal... easier than doing the oil.

-jack
-17mm
-drain pan
-10mm socket
-hose with a funnel
-one paper towel
-2.4 qts. of Honda MTF...

Will...tool man...show me the tool...

I made this we-todd set up with a screw-on funnel (to go on the MTF bottle) connected to some hoses that leads to the tranny to fill it up, but I still get a little mess. What do you use.

I agree about the easy part though...easier than oil change.

I have been using the GM Syncroshift MTF. It seems to work just as good, if not better than Honda MTF. I still like the Honda MTF tho, I always used it in my GSR tranny, and my buddys SI trans.

Try the GM stuff, around 8 bucks a quart tho. I heard it can help some grinding and weird noises when shifting. After I rebuilt my trans recently, this is what I have been using, and it shifts very very smooth into every gear, and has no bad noisies at all.

I first changed mine at about 12000 miles with Mobile 1. Then I changed it again at around 30000. Now have almost 40000 miles with the stock clutch

Its Mobile one synthetic gear oil.

Try GM Syncromesh. It lessend my 2nd-3rd grind, and completely eliminated it on a del Sol VTEC tranny (Y21 too, right?).

GM Synchromesh
BG Snychroshift

Two different tranny fluids. Both come highly recommended from what I've read.
